I'm working on a game right now that I'd love to GPL when it's comeplete, but I'm not at all certain what the process is like to do that.
One thing I have been told is that it's entirely kosher to use other GPL material within mine, and I thought that sounded nice, as there are a couple of areas in which I'm not at all interested in reinventing the wheel. The biggest part of that, for me, is the storage formats, most specifically 3d models and landscapes.
So I'm looking for suggestions of all of the 3d model formats (a la .3ds .x and .blend) that I might use, along with what editors can output to them that I might make some suggestions to my artists.

By far the best 3D modelling software available GPL is Blender.

The process to GPL is simple:

Thanks for the GNU stuff.
Yeah, I know about blender a bit, but I'm really more concerned with what format I might use inside of a game. No suggestions?

Blender can export to heaps - basically use anything your engine can use.

For an engine try Irrlicht and Crystal Space.
