guys I want to install debian from cds that I'll download but which images would be enough to install a basic system with a desktop? would only the first 2 cds be enough or the first dvd image?

The first two CD's should be plenty to get you up and running.

If you've got a fast internet connection, just download the first cd image, or even a net install cd. After you get the base system installed, just use apt to get the rest.

# apt-get install x-window-system-core
# apt-get install gnome
# apt-get install gdm
Replace gnome with which ever desktop you want. After those are installed you should be good to go.
