The package has only patches upto 2.6.9 kernel , i downloaded 2.6.9 applied the patch
tried to compile in the debian way im getting stuck

at this stage

Code: Select all

 fakeroot make-kpkg --initrd --append-to-version=-some-string-here kernel-image kernel-headers
The error is

Code: Select all

  • I ve some basic questions

    1. Can i compile a linux kernel 2.6.9 in a 2.6.24 OS??
2..If possible ,Can i boot with that kernel into my current OS
3.If 1 not possible then wat is the most appropriate solution without changing my current OS??

first the patches can be fuond here:http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/projects/rt/

second off the rt linux wiki is here:http://rt.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Main_Page

3r5d: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/ ... /rt/older/ it may say older however the newer kenel patches are in there,

4th: if your trying to use grsecurity with the rt patch it wont' do - i've tried it with the rt patch...

5th: to build my kernel with debs - i use the follwoing command: - change rtbotnetgodalphamale to whatever u want or remove the append line.

Code: Select all

make-kpkg --initrd --append-to-version=-rtbotnetgodalphamale kernel_image kernel_headers
edit: oh! don't download the broken-out bz2, etc.. just the rt ones u want, and also to patch use the following after in the untared kernel directory,

Code: Select all

gunzip < patch_file | patch -p0 (or p1 if errors)

or

bunzip2 < patch_file | patch -p0 (or p1 if errors)
alas make sure you remove the now patched src and try to re-patch a fresh src and also don't use fakeroot if the src is in /usr/src/ - use root - i'd say only using fakeroot if only compiling from your own account - ie: desktop, etc...
