What's on about sid during testing's freeze?
My interpretation from Lenny's freeze announcement is that, although major changes in sid are not forbidden, they are strongly discouraged. On the other hand, someone suggested (second post) that the freeze may last for up to almost a year.
So, will updates in sid be crawling for almost one year? I will not use experimental as a remedy, I am not crazy

I could be remembering wrong. I wasn't paying real close attention to the differences at the time. I wonder if there's a way to get hard data on this. It's certainly not life or death, but it would be interesting to see just how much unstable and testing diverge during a freeze.rickh wrote: That's not how I remember it. Sid dies during the Testing freeze. Both Sarge and Etch's freeze periods represent my occasional dips into Experimental.

I wouldn't worry too much about what some random guy writes in his blog. Stick to the official announcements.alleluia20 wrote:On the other hand, someone suggested (second post) that the freeze may last for up to almost a year.
It wasn't just "some random guy." It was a DD, or at least someone whose blog gets picked up by Debian Planet. Both Sarge and Etch had "things" going on that delayed the release well beyond the stated goals. Maybe that won't happen with Lenny. Maybe the world will live in peace ... My guess, January.I wouldn't worry too much about what some random guy writes in his blog.

The "random DD," Bastian Venthur, is holding to his June 2009 prediction. I'm holding to my January prediction, as well. Only difference is that mine was pulled pretty much from thin air, and his is supported by a fancy graph.

Right this moment, the top link at Planet Debian has a somewhat more optimistic spin on the number of bugs. Here's the post: http://blog.schmehl.info/Debian/releasing-lenny-2

That guy (Alexander Reichle-Schmehl) is a newlywed. Everything looks good to him. Isn't he also the one in charge of the Debian Project News. That's overdue as well.

I don't know. I mean a division of labor is a good thing. I do all the computer work, and that keeps me from dealing with the checkbook. I'm good with that.Lavene wrote:I envy her, or him... Imagine, a life partner that can maintain his/ her own Debian system *sigh*
