Sorry, Bulkley, but I am totally stumped. I am unable to reproduce the error message that you are getting, and you've done everything that I've asked you to do. Maybe something will come to me in a couple of days, but for now...

I really don't see why this program is such a problem. I have no trouble with torsmo, which is the foundation for conky. I thould all I would have to do is upgrade. Guess not.
That's good, I've changed log file in conky.c: XOrg.0.log to XFree86.0.log, configure & make it again and everything is OK :)
