Hello all! :)

I have a question, how can I bring .wmv and .wma files to work in vlc?

Thanks for the answers. :)

if you download this http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releas ... 12.tar.bz2
and extract it in /usr/lib/win32 you can play wmv and wma with Mplayer, Totem and Noatun
I don't know about VLC because i've never used it but i suppose this should work also with it

Be aware that the WMV codecs are proprietary and possibly illegal, but if you're willing to use non-free stuff (I'm not) and take the risk (I would) then you can install that.

Isn't there a w32codecs package in marillat's apt repo?

Yes there is. And, as you say... it's probably illegal but the jury is still out on that one I think. Some say that if you have a legal windows licence it's ok, some say 'no way'...

Anyway, for those that don't care about the legal stuff, Marillat's repo is:
# MARILLAT NON-FREE
deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ sid main

Thank you all! :)

As for the legal stuff...I think Debian is the most legal software on my PC. :D

Anyways really thanks for help, I get many emails with .wmv attached and it's annoying if you can't reply what you think of it.
