Setting up dbus, breaks

#1 Post by kaapelikala »

Hi,

I'm not "new" as such, but this is the first time I have begun to play with Debian as a server/firewall/etc. Also if this is in the wrong forum, I'm very sorry.

So, I installed the new system (with a couple of kernel panics but noacpi solved that one). I decided I want it to have a usable desktop environment for VNC so I started to install XFCE4. Downloads all good, but when it started installing things this happened:

Code: Select all

Setting up pciutils (1:3.0.0-6) ...
Setting up portmap (6.0-9) ...

Then nothing happened anymore. My ssh connection isn't down, but the machine doesn't respond to anything. What has happened? More importantly how do I fix that?

Re: Setting up dbus, breaks

Here's the problem:

Code: Select all

subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of dbus-x11:
dbus-x11 depends on dbus; however:
Package dbus is not configured yet.
dpkg: error processing dbus-x11 (--configure):
dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
So somehow you need to get dbus installed. Try:

Code: Select all

apt-get -f install
dpkg --configure -a
If dbus still refuses to install the package your downloaded deb package might be corrupt. It lives in /var/cache/apt/archives.
Post back with any errors or otherwise.
