Eterm with etch?

Postby haffi » 2006-07-18 17:25

I recently switched from stable to etch and ran apt-get dist-upgrade. Now Eterm complains like this:
haffi@debianMac:~ $ Eterm
Eterm: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/ undefined symbol: conf_init_subsystem
and when I try apt-get install eterm I get his:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Package eterm is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package eterm has no installation candidate

So what do I do to fix this?

that's curious, after an apt-cache search for eterm it says the package eterm-themes exists, but no actual eterm, you could try to switch to sid temporarily and see if you can install it from there, and then switch back to etch

but eterm is pretty old and dated by now, and doesn't even handle unicode, so maybe it's time to try out a new terminal like uxterm (unicode xterm), or if you want transparency, rxvt-unicode maybe (: (or rxvt-unicode-lite for a smaller memory footprint)

You can always download packages from Debian's FTP server.

Eterm disappeared for me when I moved from Sarge to Etch. I don't miss it because I generally use Aterm.

There are plenty of other terminals out there, I use Konsole as I'm a KDE person.
