I have a Debian server inplace now, but I need to replace it with newer hardware....
What is the fastest/easiest way to get the new hardware configured with the same packages as the existing server?
I could simply run my code on the new server and see what missing packages are squacked about, and then install them as I encounter problems...
Or I could get a list of installed packages and install them one by one...
but I was hoping that there might be a more automated way of doing this.
Any one have any ideas for me?

the software shouldn't care what sort of hardware you have, the drivers are all in the kernel, and assuming you have a stock debian kernel there should be plenty of modules available for all sorts of drivers
