Hibernate/Suspend issues on Squeeze

#1 Post by esheesle »

Recently got a new dell studio 1557 laptop. I installed squeeze on it so it has audio/wireless etc which wasn't in Lenny. When I try to hibernat(through gui gnome and via hibernate command line). The screen goes black immediately but I see no output. The system powers down about 30 seconds later. When I boot back up the system boots as usual though. Here is my hibernate.log:

Starting suspend at Wed Feb 17 20:06:01 EST 2010

Any ideas?

So tried doing a suspend just now and when the system resumed it appears to be functioning ok but I received a warning that the kernel had experienced an error from the reporting tool(reported the error). My /var/log/messages is filled with these:

This is where all the errors start in the dmesg output(after the usb is activated, etc):

Radeon and suspend fails as well

#5 Post by esheesle »

Just changed from the radeonhd driver to the radeon xorg driver to solve another issue (terminals all gone) and now when I try to suspend I get all the same messages as above seemingly, but also just get a black screen and never fully resumes(do see a mouse) and that includes terminals being gone. Thoughts?

The only thing from the message log that appears relevant:

To top it all off, with the radeonhd driver it only works once before coming back to a black screen the next time.

Ok, so managed to figure out a couple things playing with this.

1) Debian Squeeze won't hibernate at all for me
2) Using the radeon driver the system will suspend, but on resume i see a black screen with a mouse cursor(which moves, and i can type text which I can't see, but affects the system)
3) Using the radeonhd driver the system will suspend once normally, a second time will cause the same blank screen issue as above.
4) Using either driver appears to cause some sort of kernel crash which kerneloops wants to report.

Anyone have any ideas on this?
