nubuilder package

#1 Post by pengo123 »

a company i know of has just released a million dollar piece of commercial software as GLP3 (its basically a tool for making online databases), and no distros seem to have picked it up.

http://nubuilder.com/nubuilderwww/index ... v=download

pity if companies do this and no one notices.

can someone let me know what the procedure is to get this included in the repositories??? who do I contact, etc., as it would be very useful for me??

Short answer - you need to get a DD (Debian Developer) to sponsor the package.

Actually, what he wants is requesting it to be packaged. You should file a RFP, read more at http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/

Well it is already a .deb but I have no idea if it's been done properly or not. Of course you as a DD you most likely know better than I. :)

pengo123 does not seem interested in maintaining it, just wonder why it is not included in the main distros. This is usually due to lack of advertise of the software.

About the debian package provided in the linked page, I have not idea if it follows the Debian Policy and they do not provide the source Debian package.

We are happy to support this as we (nusoftware) are the developers of it.

We would love to get it included in Debian's next release but we need to know what to do.

Please help us.

Hi Steven,

I can only quote what Ana has already written:

Thank you BTW for making this available. nuBuilder might be just what we need.

You may want to post a request for help/advice on debian-mentors

Yes, you should work with a developer/mentor to sponsor the package. First thing they will ask is why your package should be in Debian, so be prepared with an answer to that. They will help audit the source, making sure it meets the Debian Free software guidelines if it's to be in main, or non-free if not, and help it meet Debian Policy (use shared system libraries if at all possible, for example) and help with the packaging to meet policy, too.
