Howdy all,
Other sites will have an icon next to an index entry.
It will have a popup message associated with it.

Re: navigation & icons
The icons cost an extra $400 / month from the host provider, so we prefer to spend that money on cake and icecream at the year-end party and just deal with text for the rest of the year.
Make sure you R.S.V.P by June 2, or else you'll have spent a year without icons for nothing!

I can see the smallish red one --- thought it could be a bit clearer, or bigger. Anything that increases clarity with out it being overly complex, has to be a good thing as i see it. I figure icons tend to fit into that definition.
Besides, my eyes aren't what they used to be.
oOarthurOo ... whatever, I gave up on south park years ago. It can be somewhat insight full, i'll give it that much.

And with subsilver2 theme:
Q: Why is the Eunux kernel so bloated?
A: It was made in the image of its founder.

Re: navigation & icons
Howdy all,
No offence meant for the late reply --- my isp has been playing silly buggers with my connection of late...
My point is that (especially) icons and such shouldn't be dependant on any particular theme. I run in a user mode that tends to render a lot of sites quite bland. But that's how i like it. Bugger the ads ...
Some sites still provide good usable and informative icons regardless.
But this is not one of them. And I for one, would expect a bit more from a 'deb' site really (grin). The reasons why should be obvious. But ... tra-la-la so to speak.

Re: navigation & icons
Ok, i suppose i can live with a small red icon --- and view in 'author mode'. But ---- small squinting icons will effect your eye sight eventually.
No mind, no matter
I haven't looked at my style sheet dir for a long time, looks like i'm going to have to dust it off a bit ... it would seem. It's Distracting from better things.

Re: navigation & icons
what the heck is 'author mode'?
the icons are 27 pixels high....doesn't seem overly tiny to me

Re: navigation & icons
Howdy MeanDean,
I use Opera ... Opera/9.50 (X11; Linux i686; U; en),
Author mode refers to the viewing style. Opera has two configurable modes, Author and User. I generally use User mode as it's been configured (over time) to cater for the various style settings used by a number of places i visit. And is usually quite good.
The 'Author' mode that i am now using for here, what ever the base default is, would be that which is rendering. It is ok, in terms of fonts and colours and table layout. I get quite a nice bluish drift render which i'm starting to find very pleasing. I may well even high-jack it and see if i can use it in other sites. But the icon --- as used by index pages to flag whether there are new posts etc ... at least as it shows up in my browser is quite small. No where near 27 pixels. There have been times when i've been very tired when i have found it a bit hard to see.
I get the following feed back from a properties listing for the icon that is in front of a topic heading on my 'View your posts' page. Which are the ones i'm refering to.
In other words ... you have your system set up differently (grin).>>

Code: Select all
Dimensions 11 x 9 pixels
Depth 3 bits per pixel
Image type GIF
File size 93 bytes
Address http://forums.debian.net/styles/prosilver/imageset/icon_topic_newest.gif
Alternative text View first unread post
[/quote]
btw, what kind of theme or modifications are you using to get a 27 pixel gif ?
PS: I'm just looking at a cached proSilver style sheet from operas' cache which has the font set to 10 pixels ... I get larger than that. But then, my browsers font setting has '16 pixel minimum' set as well. I think that must be over-riding the proSilver style sheet setting.
