Firefox html5

#1 Post by craigevil »

Imagine my surprise when I go to watch something on youtube and it plays in mplayer rather than flash.

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.7) Gecko/20100713 Firefox/3.6.7
In about:config change html5.enable to true.

Under the video are these options:
Download | Low 5 | High 34 | High 35 ♦ View without Flash | Low 5 | High 34 | High 35 ♦ View Flash
Raspberry PI 400 Distro: Raspberry Pi OS Base: Debian Sid Kernel: 5.15.69-v8+ aarch64 DE: MATE Ram 4GB
Debian - "If you can't apt install something, it isn't useful or doesn't exist"

This is how I've been watching YouTube videos for some time using Iceweasel as described here. Well if it can be done in FF/3.6.7 without greasemonkey scripts, then I think it must be preferable.
DebianStable

Code: Select all

$ vrms

No non-free or contrib packages installed on debian! rms would be proud.

It's odd that you can't enable the html5 parser in iceweasel 3.6.10-1 in about:config; it's not there.

The option exists in 3.6.12pre, which is what I'm using.

Can't find an iceweasel 3.6.12pre even in experimental.

It's Firefox, not Iceweasel:

Just to comment that I've found that, on my Testing desktop, Iceweasel 3.6.10-1 plays YouTube without flash well in GNOME-MPlayer using the greasemonkey userscript with very low CPU use, about 10%.

w3 announces that html5 still is not finished and should not be used yet.
They says that the goal is to be finished at 2013.

Just wanted to notice that :)

With regard to html5, just to say that it works very well in Squeeze with Gnome Web Browser 2.30.6 (Epiphany). For details, please see this post.
