no video stream

#1 Post by canti »

I have no video stream, nor from youtube, nor from any other sites with video. Flash non-free results in browser freeze after streaming for a while. I also tried the method described here (youtube with free software only, with the aid of greasemonkey). No success, even if I installed nvidia-driver. The result is the text saying that plugin is missing (however, iceweasel could not detect which plugin is missing), and a grey block instead of video.

The minitube-method does work well, but is somewhat restricted (no embedded video can play here, as far as I know). In Ubuntu everything works well. Additional info: I have a 64bits laptop/notebook, the output of lspci | grep VGA is
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G96 [GeForce 9600M GT] (rev a1)
.

I feel that I overlooked something important, but what? I hope you can help me here... And yes, I'm a newbie in Debian.

Warm regards,
canti

Try removing flashplayer-nonfree and install flashplayer-mozilla from http://debian-multimedia.org.

By using flashplayer-mozilla it seems that youtube videos work well, but videos in other sites (like www.nos.nl and www.nu.nl) don't work well: browser freeze occurs after a short period of streaming. Unfortunately...

Do these new informations help you in your analyses?

Does www.nos.nl not using Moonlight/Silverlight?

Not in all videos, I think. In any case no message re Silverlight/Moonlight appears.

How much CPU does the top command show being used when using flashplayer-mozilla on your system?
DebianStable

Code: Select all

$ vrms

No non-free or contrib packages installed on debian! rms would be proud.

When running a youtube video, at the start of this the CPU shoots to 50% (npviewer.bin), then back to average 25-30%, sometimes shooting to 40-50%.

about:plugins says that Shockwave Flash 10.3 d162 is active. There are also a lot of other plugins active, perhaps too much? How can I post the output of about:plugins here?

How can I see if pluginreg.dat is corrupted? I post the contents here:

Use Code tags, so it will look like above....

Mine flash is the same ...

You can also set in about:config

Code: Select all

plugin.expose_full_path
to true, you'll see the full path of your plugin..

You can make a backup of your pluginreg.dat and restart iceweasel...

To many plugins...? Don't think so. But how did you install flash now ?

I'm sorry, you are right, using the code tags is better.

I change the config: and restart iceweasel: no effect. After few seconds of playing the video suddenly stops while below a text appears that a site is loading. Sometimes a complete browser freeze follows.

Btw, gefeliciteerd met je verjaardag!! (for non-Dutch: congratulations on your birthday!)

Dank je ( thanks )

But how did you install flash now and did you remove all former flash stuff ?

If I go to about:plugins I see ( among other plugins ) :

I'm sorry to forget to answer your former question: I removed the flashplayer-mozilla by Synaptic. And I installed the newest version of Adobe by your method. Your output of about:plugins is exact the same as mine. I hope you have patience with me...
