leafpad or geany. There's mousepad which is linked with xfce but if you have no printer install it without recommends so it doesn't pull printer support.

I use the text editor for keeping notes and for writing/editing all my web pages, thus, I like to have multiple tabs open at the same time. Leafpad/Mousepad can't do that, so I remove them and install gedit.

My choice is leafpad and geany :)
Leafpad for simple, basic, rapid editing & notes, Geany for more complex works!

Great combination IMHO!!!

Yes you can. I meant that if you didn't have a printer then you could install mousepad without recommended packages and it wouldn't pull xfprint4 (printer support).

geany has tabs too (there may be others as well).

I go for Gedit every time. Its plugins make it so extensible it's indispensable. (That rhyme was indefensible.)
Xfce, Wheezy
