Installing Chrome, not in the menu

Downloaded Chrome from its own website, chose the version for Debian and used GDebi package installer to install.
My system has accepted the installation and says it's there if I try to install it again. Still, no trace of it!
I checked the menus with Edit Menu, not there either.
So where is it?

which version of Debian and what DE/wm are you running?

try running update-menus as user.

or search the forum last I knew it was something weird with Gnome.

I use Debian 6, Gnome 2.30 and...not sure about the window manager....where would I find that?
Even if it's not showing up in the menus but says it's installed I should be able to start it from the command line, shouldn't I?
Should it be enough to just type 'chrome'...or #chrome start#, or perhaps the whole version number as well?

Try typing "google" in the terminal and hitting the tab key once or twice to see if it comes up. I think the name of the binary in /usr/bin is "google-chrome". It also should have placed a google-chrome.desktop file in /usr/share/applications, and that's what shows up in the menu. Do you have that file?

Should it not be normally in the menu when you install it with Gdebi?

Had this issue with a couple of Google apps. Just right click your menu, click "Edit Menus". Highlight "Internet" on the left, then on the right click "New Item". Name it Google Chrome, and in the command enter "google-chrome". When you finish typing in the command it should automatically fill in the Google Chrome icon. Close/save all the windows and you should be g2g.

Also had to do this with Google Earth and Google Picasa as well.

no need for anything, navigate to /opt/google/chrome/ and drag the shortcut(google-chrome.desktop) to the menu

The problem sorted itself when I installed via Debian's repository! Which I of course should have checked out first!

I assumed that google-chrome wouldn't be there, for some reason...but it was!
And after that it turned up in the menu, as expected.

At least now I know what to do if something similar happens again!

that's cos the google .deb added its own entry in your sources.list.d so that apt can update google chrome.

Hi.

I solved my missing Picasa icon by dragging the icon to the top bar and locked it there. Maybe you can do that for your missing Google Chrome too.
