[SOLVED]Monitor resolution problem
I've been seeing this a lot on the fourms, but I don't have the technical skills required to use most of the solutions that are reached. I have a Samsung RC512 laptop, and Debian will not allow me to use the preferred resolution of 1366 x 768. I'm fairly sure it's a xorg configuration problem, but I don't know how to fix it. Thanks for helping out a newbie.

Re: Monitor resolution problem
Thanks for the fast response.
As for drivers, I'm not sure how to find them. I'm a bit of a Linux newbie. I previously had Ubuntu 11.04 install, and jumped ship after the whole GNOME 3 fiasco on 11.10. The monitor worked fine then. I also have a nVidia GeForce GT 525M chip, but I don't think it ever gets used by Linux because I don't game on this OS.
Code: Select all
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Sandy Bridge Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)

Re: Monitor resolution problem
So, it looks like backporting a new kernel should fix it? Is that a very involved process? I just don't want to break anything while I'm doing it.
Re: Monitor resolution problem
Getting a backport kernel is as easy as installing any other package. Just follow the instructions here.

Re: Monitor resolution problem
So far so good until I run into this:
I can't figure out how to get around this. There doesn't seem to be any sort of way to tell it to allow me to proceed.

Problem solved on the reboot. Fantastic! I can look at my screen without my eyes coming out of my head! Thanks.
