[SOLVED] fglrx not working - black screen..

#1 Post by lbm »

I have tried to install fglrx driver, from AMDs site, with the result when I rebooted the "_" was just blinking in the top left corn
Then I tried the ones from sids repo, but with the same result.

The module is loaded

Code: Select all

lsmod |grep fgl
fglrx 2615031 0
button 12937 1 fgl
radeon module is NOT loaded.

From xorg.log

Code: Select all

I assume you're running unstable? Remove the fglrx you downloaded from AMD and install 12.6 beta-1 from the repo.

Thanks for replying..

I have tried this, and Xorg starts (in fallback mode).. although fglrx is loaded. No xorg.conf file in this case.

If I then run aticonfig --initial to create an xorg.conf file with the fglrx module, and reboots, the computer stalls again, with a black screen.

Aparrently there is a bug between Xorg 1.12 and fglrx.
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=671320

Strange that the latest, driver is not working then. Maybe this is because it is a Beta? !

I have being "googling" this, and I am defiantly not the only one with this problem, with 12.4 or 12.6 BETA, with other distros as well.
AMD... Fix the drivers... Please.... :evil

Solved by patching libpciaccess0.
I am using driver 12.6-beta.

Source:
http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=522

Code: Select all

aptitude install devscripts
aptitude build-dep libpciaccess0
debcheckout libpciaccess0
cd libpciaccess0
# copy <http://pastebin.com/swpDj4FD> to file fglrx.patch
patch -p1 < fglrx.patch
dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc -B
dpkg -i ../libpciaccess0….deb

Dear Friends,

is this solved libpciaccess 0.13, or is patch still necessary?

Best,
M

The patch is still needed. I have since post, installed the patch 2 times, after package updates because it brakes again!

I can recommend to do an hold on the package.

Code: Select all

aptitude hold libpciaccess0

I am aware that this is an old post, but I have just installed v. 13.4 propraritary driver from AMDs site, and it seems to be working out of the box, with no patching or anything needed.

Just some info, if someone comes across this topic.
