Would anyone happen to know why isn't this piece of software in Debian? Licence seems to be OK so what's the story?

Re: Why isn't SportsTracker in Debian?
I'm just guessing, but since it looks to be a Java application, there's nothing to be done, really. That's kind of the whole point of Java.
Re: Why isn't SportsTracker in Debian?
You can't package a java application?
Well, I guess there's a reason, and a good one.
I just asked because the application looks something I'd like to try. The bad thing is that I really don't want to install anything outside of Debian repos. And I'm just too wimp to use that Java WebStart thingie there.

Code: Select all
$ debtags grep "implemented-in::java" | wc -l
308

Indeed a strange answer by dasein
https://wiki.debian.org/CategoryJava
More strange than they usual are.
To the topic:
A package is not in debian because no one has packaged it.
If one wants it: request to package. Then wait.
A similar question would be: Why haven't i got roses in my garden?

Thanks!nadir wrote:If one wants it: request to package.
I'll request it as soon as I've figured out how to do it properly.
I've already checked Work-Needing and Prospective Packages and it seems no one is working on it. No one either has requested it before.
Yes. Indeed I may have to wait a bit. There's currently only 1901 requests for packaging.nadir wrote:Then wait.
Re: Why isn't SportsTracker in Debian?
Yes, such advices often sound more easy than they are.I'll request it as soon as I've figured out how to do it properly.
Truth to be told: i don't know it myself (and hence never did do it ).
Found this:
http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEdu/HowTo/ ... NewPackage
which makes it sound as if it was just a simple email:
But i sure got no idea what this means:1. Register a WNPP request, asking for the package
Send an email to submit@bugs.debian.org. The subject should contain:
RFP: <suggested-package-name> -- <short-description>
example:) RFP: multiseat -- installer for multi-head systems
With these two lines, the message body indicates a WNNP request: {{{package: wnpp severity: wishlist}}}
Probably no one is that happy about a new request ...With these two lines, the message body indicates a WNNP request: {{{package: wnpp severity: wishlist}}}
The short and brutal truth: I don't know it myself.

Re: Why isn't SportsTracker in Debian?
It seems to be as simple as that. It can be done via reportbug or via email.
From the WNPP page:
Here's an example of a request made today.
Now I only have to do it right.
From the WNPP page:
The TAG in this situation is RFP, "Request For Package". Severity is wishlist. It is also possible to report reports/bugs against the WNPP via email. The format of the submission should be like this:
To: submit@bugs.debian.org
Subject: TAG: package name -- short package description
Package: wnpp
Severity: see below
Some information about the package. (If this is an ITP or RFP a URL where the package (either the .deb or the original source) can be downloaded from is required, as well as information concerning its license.)
Here's an example of a request made today.

Re: Why isn't SportsTracker in Debian?
Not like it is hard to download http://sourceforge.net/projects/sportst ... urce=files
and run it.
Or as the homepage clearly states:
Why does it need to be a .deb package?
and run it.
Or as the homepage clearly states:
Installation
The most easy way to install SportsTracker is to use Java WebStart. If you have the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed, simply click the launch button:
Launch
Once the application is installed you can simply launch it by using the WebStart client or create a shortcut for it. New SportsTracker versions will be detected and installed automatically.
Why does it need to be a .deb package?

Re: Why isn't SportsTracker in Debian?
As I said I don't want to install anything outside of Debian repos. And as I also said, I'm just too wimp to use that Java WebStart thingie there.
Plus, the question was, and still is, why isn't SportsTracker in Debian? But nadir already answered that, so I consider this matter solved.
