A cynical soul might imagine that that's precisely the condition that the admins want to achieve.
arochester wrote:What is the problem and why isn't it fixed yet?
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, because the very highest-level poobahs don't give a crap.

(Pondering: do the young 'uns have any idea what the phrase "broken record" is meant to convey?)

If spamhunters have to remove individual spams manually, I have to imagine that such a task would be less mechanically burdensome if it were distributed among a larger base of folks. I know that I got really (really) tired of reporting spam yesterday, and basically gave up after several dozen. My thought (perhaps inaccurate) is that spam removal is at least as cumbersome and time-consuming as spam reporting.

But hey, you're the spamhunter. If you say that you three have it covered, I take your word for it. Though I seem to recall a great deal of flourish about appointing a fourth spamhunter; apparently that didn't quite work out.
4D696B65 wrote:To all the good members who report spam, thank you
What about us bad members who also happen, quite by coincidence, to report spam? ;)

In all seriousness, I meant what I said above. I think that FDN spamhunters do an absolutely amazing job, given how badly hamstrung you are by "highers-up."

Funny too that a moderator has got the time to close a real thread,
but at the same time ignores the spam-problem.
Yeah, that one single thread with a bit of blah-blah is a serious problem these days ...

I send an email to admins/stuff/etc and asked if anything could be done about the spam problem.
By the way (aka: it won't hurd if others do that too. My reputation ain't the best ever seen on earth):

The spammers are now addressing their spam to the other spammers.

http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=92911

The circle is complete, the spampocalypse is Nigh.
The Forum's search box is terrible. Use site specific search, e.g.
https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3A ... terms+here

Yet again this afternoon (PST), nearly half of the first page of "active" topics are new spam threads.

Can't speak for anyone else, of course. But for myself, this is starting to get old. I suspect that others may be feeling the same way.

It'll be sad if this board ends up going under because the admins won't arm the spamhunters with adequate tools.

Stop bitching. You have been given an opportunity to learn Russian and purchase boner pills at discounted prices.

No time to learn Russian. Thanks to other spam threads, I'm too busy watching the latest episodes of Pretty Little Sons of Honey Bo Bo online.

I send an email to the team, and i asked three times in IRC if they are aware how serious the situation is these days: spammers answer posts of spammers (and also if nothing could be done).
All without reply.
I see no sense in asking a fourth time, but it might be an idea if others ask too.
(I could get over my pride and ask again, but speaking to a silent channel seems pointless).

The way it is the forum is barely usable anymore, for me. But i am a drama queen. That is known.

I ask others to ask for a change via mail and IRC too. If someone has better ideas i am in. I ain't got better ideas.
I think this can be done with the due respect though. Speaking about it here, in long detail, won't help much (i think. But what do i know?)

I wrote to "The Administrators" but no change.

I wrote to one of the Global Moderators" but no change.

I asked to be a "Spam Hunter" but no reply.

Maybe this Forum has become a ghost ship, just sailing on-wards with no crew and no-body at the helm. Spam gets deleted but no permanent fix is made.

Is there anyone out there who has any powers or who can assign powers to someone else?

Is there anyone who can fix or update this Forum?

If there isn't there is not much hope for the future of the Forum...

Yes. The forum admins. These are the very folks who only show up maybe a couple of times per year, and exhibit every indication of not caring about either the health or longevity of this venue.

Why is this seemingly simple point so hard for people to understand?

It is called hope.
But how long can people continue to hope?
And for those of us with a high level of tolerance for annoyance, eventually the limit will be reached. If there continues to be more spam than real posts, the forum will soon become, as arochester calls it, a ghost ship. I for one, have almost had enough. We could always consider it a learning experience. If anyone wants to start another a forum, DFN and DUF provide enough insight into what mistakes to not make.

I wonder how many of the current 139555 members are spambots. It wouldn't surprise me if the spambots are actually a large majority.

This forum is becoming rather useless. There is rarely a time when it is not overrun with spam. I understand the situation. Just expressing my frustration . . .

I think that the users of this forum got a good reason to be frustrated. I also think they got a good reason to complain.
The problem is that i got no idea where to complain.
Not good with the mailing lists. Perhaps there is one?

I really don't get it.
If i don't want to do something, then i simply don't do it.
No need to say "i do it" and then simply do nothing.
It's not that anyone could be forced to do this.
So why do people things they don't need to do without any interest in doing those things?

I am a troublemaker, of course, so my opinion doesn't count much
(if spam wouldn't be a problem i would complain for an arbitrary other reason).
:-)
I don't think this world suffers from glut of troublemakers, btw. Au contraire. nother smiley here.

Do a search for other forums. A lot of them are dying out with little or no recent posting. I think forums are moving to social media and are organized around hand-held devices. DUF may be on its way out regardless. I'll be sorry to see it go.

I guess it staggers on until the spambusters get sick of their task and quit.

I don't think at this stage any of the forum users will blame them. And there isn't anyone else to notice, so...

To be honest, I am amazed that the spam fighters did not give up long ago due to frustration. They have an amazing level fortitude.

So if you don't participate in 'social media' or own a hand-held device, you're screwed? That sucks!
