Debian Etch (RC2): The pleasure of using Linux
"I'll dare say that Debian 4.0 is going to be the best Linux distribution released to the date."

This is a glowing review. In the "Pros and Cons" section at the end, he had to stretch to find some cons.

Anyone submitted the review to OSNEWS yet?
-------------------------------
Why is it?
- Difficult to build your packages from source
- Graphical installer a bit "hidden"
I thought GUI was the default and I certainly expect it to ship as default!
- You need to add manually an external repository to add some codecs
This is the way it should be IMO! Seems normal to me.
- No artwork / recognisable look
Strange I have the debian swirl wallpaper and the debian swirl screensaver and so forth.... They certainly do not recreate the wheel with themes or anything and I am glad since I have my favorite.
- Exim installed and started by default on a desktop
I have never understood why exim is installed....
- Network configuration removed from installer?
Not that I know of????
- Difficult web page, no official forums
Web page could use a make over but it is a LOT to make over. I have thought about doing a site that leads to the info on the debian site or something. No official forums - I think is probably a GOOD thing.
(should be)
PROS:
the universal OS - what more of a compliment can you give...

Aye, fight and you may fail, sellout, and you may live, a while. And dying in your MScash beds, you'll be willin' to trade ALL the cash, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may FUD our customers, but they'll never take...OUR FREEDOM!

I think it's a great review for Debian. I'm all for it. Where do I vote?DeanLinkous wrote:Is it okay to submit that review to osnews?
