spammers

#1 Post by nadir »

A lot of the birthdays today seem to be spammers.
I would have written that in a spam-report, but can't think of a way how to do that
(iow: i see no reason to keep this thread. it is a simple info).

edited the title.

Hmm, lots of zero-post users with spam links in their sigs and profiles.

Maybe they don't even need to post for the links to be effective (for SEO gaming presumably)?

That's my understanding. If you deleted their accounts on their 'birthdays' it would only take a year to purge them all.

Those links are visible in their user profiles but don't know whether the bots look at that info. Try googling one of them and see if FDN comes up in the results and what page.
May the FORK be with you!

What wrong with the spam ?

I love reading posts about the latest discount in drugs, links to new episodes of US TV shows, and the website even let's me know if my java or flash is out of date and automatically gives me a file to update them :D

This new PC Optimizer 2013 edition i got running through WINE has made my pc so much faster :)

I find the the level of anger about spam somewhat mystifying...

I'd take 20 spammers for every buntard any day of the week... no trouble at all...

No doubt those who complain don't block ads elsewhere and/or whore out their personal data/browsing habits to the likes of google inc....

Maybe we should lobby for a hidden buntard section and some dedicated hunters to move posts there :)

Actually. I was reflecting on this a few days ago since I am the mod of a major group on google plus. I don't mind mindless bot spam. It is easy to identify and delete.

Though real people spamming their own unrelated crap actually pisses me off. I give them a friendly say that they should post only relevant stuff in this section... Then they always get pissy at me back which always puts me in a good mood. This happens so often its kind of frustrating.

Person: <Posts unrelated crap>
Me: Could you please post only about <board topic> and not spam your business?
Person:: Well I use Linux on my server. You obviously don't get it.
Me: I am not convinced this has anything to do with Linux.
Person: I don't have to convince you.
Me: Hehe. Yes, you do. It is up to me to sort through all the worthless off topic crap here.
Me: <deletes topic because I have lost patience>

What a drama ...If we add a review of the latest films, some opions about music and a bit of viagra/sex-toys, then this thread covers all and everything this board has ever seen.

I clean the birthday bots every day but since I am utc -5 it hasn't changed for me yet.
Please don't post links to spammer accounts, it only helps them.

I am not happy with it neither (i removed the links, btw).
What to do? They got no posts, so there is nothing to report.
If you look at them everyday i guess it is pointless to mention it. Yes?

Just banning the spammers by IP address is not helpful for those of us using tor to access the forums while at work... and is completely pointless anyway...
