Thunar "not authorized" to mount disks?
I really don't wanna mess with my fstab if I don't have to...
Has anyone else had this problem?
It wasn't just for SD cards, either, though. It is also this way for hard disks, as well.

Here's my fstab. It's just all of the defaults. I've never changed it on this machine.

Just in case the very first thing you try doesn't work, there are hundreds more to choose from.
Please don't feel the need to report back on each and every thing you try. Just the one that solves your issue.

seriously, my hint was that irrelevant and
you found no clue by looking at your working thunar?
you did compare the two, no?

Re: Thunar "not authorized" to mount disks?
In this case, RTFM and LMGTFY may be a tad harsh. Because back in 2011, when Xfce upgraded to version 4.8, stuff todo with authorization for mounting, reboot etc. broke because of the introduction of two new packages, namely policykit and consolekit. These new packages ostensibly provided a better way to manage permissions system-wide. But the result lead to some huge threads trying to fix what was broken.andrewrogers wrote: Okay, so I RTFM'd... Here's what I found:
http://bbs.archbang.org/viewtopic.php?id=289
But since then, I believe most of the broken policy/consolekit behavior has been fixed.
Such that if you are reading dated threads from 2011, the solutions offered up then may be less than helpful now.
Anyhow, check if you have console/policykit daemons running in the background...
Code: Select all
$ ps -ef | grep -i '[p]olicy\|[c]onsole'
/usr/sbin/console-kit-daemon
/usr/lib/policykit-1/polkitd
/usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1

Re: Thunar "not authorized" to mount disks?
You would ensure that the policykit-1 and policykit-1-gnome packages are installed. That would be a start.andrewrogers wrote: How would I verify this?
Oh, and do you use a login manager? If so, which one?
And last but not least, which groups is your user a member of?

Yea you will need to use a login manager or setup the proper session...

which I think is....
be sure the consolekit, policykit, udisks stuff is installed and then create /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/udisks.pkla containing
not sure I have run into this problem myself but when I run a minimal install it is usually without all that *kit stuff and personally I just use pmount
