I think your optimism is misguided. See https://answers.launchpad.net/compiz/+question/235670

I don't use it on Wheezy, but I like compiz too, hope it comes back soon, very good stuff.
Right on! They were still in there! I'll have to head over to my brothers house and see if I can install them now! Thank you very much for that tip! Very Very cool! Anyone else want them? :D
YES! I love compiz! I recently gave up another distro for Debian. I wanted touchscreen support as well as other stuff. But yes, would love those debs, and does anyone know if they will run on Lenny? I'm not completely new to the Debian thing, e.g., apt*. I mean I have an iPhone...

But that's for another forum ;0

It's doubtful they would run on Lenny...is there any reason you need to use such an old release?

Has any one managed to build 0.9 from compiz code repo ? I'm having some package problems. Why is Compiz suddenly so difficult to install ? Is there a fork ?

EDIT: OK, found this list thread which cleared a lot of confusion up. Solution seems to be to simply install Compiz 0.8 from Debian Squeeze stable. Even if its "old" its actually the best most stable compiz (apparently). 0.9 sounds like it has a lot of problems and things will eventually move on to Wayland (see list post).

Very Very interesting, i have successfully packaged the latest compiz ( 0.910) from ubuntu saucy, with many mods to make it work well on debian, ( including stable) it it tested and works well as a standalone wm , ( the usual compiz + awn + gnome base ) search the forums and you will find my repo, i have no idea where all these supposed bugs come from, my version just runs with no real bugs, just a lot of configuration work has to be done. ( maybe because i stripped out a shed load of crap ubuntu patches and even worse packaging practices ) But that link blew me away, will package the latest 8.0 branch and see how it stands up, plus the northfield/norwood stuff is incredibly exiting, am of looking to package that for debian !!!!!

That's great that you've taken the time to do this for Debian

Frustrating as it is I know that Debian are a lot more strict about packaging rules which is why the latest releases are sometimes missing some things ... frustrating, but good in the long term. I was having some trouble finding your repo, although I did find your Github site, is it through there ? Could I install your packages for MATE desktop ? I found a Compiz "fork" here, but it's site is down. There are some fixes for MATE but I'm not sure if these are non-trivial. They may be the same one's you are making for Debian ?

Now Wayland. It was unclear to me if it is in a usable state, but if it is I'd love to give it a go. The venerable X has done us proud but now its the 21st century !

the repo is here https://github.com/Jubei-Mitsuyoshi/aaa-debian-repo , install instructions on the front,
the latest emerald should be there also, but not till tomorrow, its not urgent since the gtk decorator works in my version.
Currently only building for sid/unstable but if anyone wants to build their own for any given distro,
my build scripts are farly mature now, just use them with the appropriate source
https://github.com/Jubei-Mitsuyoshi/aaa-compiz.git
please leave issues there also.
build scripts are here
https://github.com/Jubei-Mitsuyoshi/aaa ... cripts.git
https://github.com/Jubei-Mitsuyoshi/aaa-env.git
again leave issues at github issues for each git,
Seems the compiz-wayland project has had no commits for a year, pity ! the idea is very exiting,
Nvidia-wayland drivers still months away, but the moment they are available ( a computer without cuda is unthinkable ) i want to be one of the first to produce debian packages.
In the mean time compiz 0.8/0,9x is still the best WM out there, and that includes windows and osx

i gave up on compiz until its maintained and returned for now i installed kwin under xfce. For the desktop cubes, wobbly windows and windows decorators, it works and it quite stable.
just set the compositor to opengl and toggle the vsync in the window manager settings and you are all set.

it does use a little more cpu than compiz but it uses less memory when active.

I've been trying this and keep getting an error message about compiz-fuzion-plugins-main. In Synaptic it shows a red box and won't install. Compiz installs and you can get to CCSM but the icons are missing making it difficult to configure. Fusion Icon works to enable Compiz, but since you can't configure it properly it basically just creates a huge mess. Any ideas on how to fix this?

You can try my tutorial http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 0#p1049565
Works for me on Linux Mint Debian Edition (Jessie) MATE Desktop and Compiz 0.8.10.

Compiz is still alive http://blog.northfield.ws/compiz-0-8-10 ... ouncement/
