Enlightenment 18 on Debian Stable Deleted Why?

As a tip for you, in case you find videos won't play in full screen mode, go into composite advanced rendering and uncheck - Don't composite full screen windows. Seems others are having the same problem. Lightdm is working well here

No, my video driver worked with that setting...but I see edeb is broken on my build--from what I see of the code, it should not work for you, either.

Hmm not sure about edeb (doesn't appear to be on my system) but gdebi is working on my system. Have Installed many an item. I should say I started with Debian LXDE stable. Have had good luck with e and lxde. Best, Xeta

Update: Interesting. So edeb only showed up when I enabled the ubuntu and PPA repo. Didn't try and install that one because I had downloaded a 1.8 version from a Bodhi link which then told me of a dependency issue with python-elementary. Of course as I said after I installed my e18 from the PPA, I commented all out back to debian stable settings. edeb and python-elementary did not install in my system but do show up when I un-comment the U and PPA repos. Since I don't yet have broken issues I'll leave them alone but hell maybe play with my live remaster and get back.

So okay, I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner. The easiest way to explore what I did is boot up a live stable debian lxde or, use testing (to avoid upgrading Libc6) and install e18 that way. No harm to your current system and you can see it working. Logout login bam e18. If anyone wants my howto PM me and i'll send it to you. Yeah I know, while it's all being set up the proper way. But in the meantime if you want to 'play' that's a pretty safe way. That's how I tested it before I ever installed it...

elive sucks. A few years ago I tried it. For one, you can download it free but have to pay to install it. Then if at some later point you change your hardware you have to pay again! Won't fall for that again.

Not sure why you're using enlightenment if you don't think the devs deserve to be able to ask for money for any of it.
development of a live installer, especially one with all the enlightenment packages probably waddn't real easy.
Then having to maintain it must be real fun as well.

It's not the enlightenment team, it's the elive distribution. I'm not opposed to donations at all and have. But elive won't let you install it on multiple machine without paying again- too much like MS.They have to send you a key. There are a few enlightenment distros such as Sparky, Bodhi that come with e as default desktop. PCLinuxOS you can install through repos.

Hmmm---found a problem in the rules files for all the libefl versions in that PPA:

The "\" symbol at the end of those lines tells the interpreter to continue on as if the next line was on the same line, that is, all the configure options have to be on the same line, so that's a neater way to keep it under 80 characters wide. Note that the "\" is missing after "with-x", so that means all the other configurations options after "with-x" are not recognized...

So I've jumped to Debian Testing using the e18 PPA, I wanted a more current system. Now you can't rag on me for mixing debian stable and testing Libc6 packages Very happy, all is well. Looking forward to e18 in the repos. Best, Xeta

Deleting a post, ya, another how to that has to do with messing with a live cd, no harm to your system really shows now many bugs must be up some asses here. But hey, I get it. These forums are like mobs. It's all about control. God forbid someone should add an Ubuntu repo. Sheesh almost fracking LOL! No worries. It's like this on raw food forums too so don't go feeling all special about yourselves.

Doing it the right way is a lot more work than just adding Ubuntu repositories. We'd be happy to have your help, if you're willing to learn. Take a look at MX 14 when we do the release tomorrow--we've got a pantsload of backports on top of Wheezy there, and everything works smoothly without upgrading any base system libraries (Glib, libc6, GTK+2, QT4, etc)

And here's how you can destroy people's installs by doing something incorrectly, and not even doing a test install on the default GNOME Wheezy desktop:

Get enough fools proselytising stupid ideas and bugs will form in asses. It is called cause and effect. Like adding Butnut repos (cause) and the system breaking after an update (effect).

So, these days you have a newer libc6 from ubuntu installed on your system... What are you going to do the next time you want to install another package from Debian stable on your system that thinks it should be using the older one? Think you wont be? Here is an easy example: Debian stable recieves security updates, some of which require libc6 and they look for a specific version of the libc6 package. Do you down-grade and loose all your effort? Maybe you choose not to recieve the updates leaving your system vonerable. It is my guess there were more things installed from ubuntu than just Enlightnment, updated packages that were needed to run E18. This could likely mean that other programs had to be upgraded as well. Do you see where I am going here? Unless you will never install or update anything on your system again, it is very likely something will break if you try to maintain even just the security updates to your system. Even ubuntu, as sloppy as they are, tell everyone that ubuntu packages are not binarly compatable with Debian and now you are going to throw in a mixedup, partly upgraded mess of packages. You seem like you are smart enough to fallow out the results of this in your head. If you never update or install anthing else, your system will probibly continue to work about like it is now I suppose.

I have no problem with paying for things, but I do have a problem with key codes. I won't have an installer turn to a coffee coaster because I can no longer ask them for a key. It's why I switched in the first place and still am here today. If it breaks I can support it myself, and don't have to shell out cash or beg like a dog for tech support.

The Libc6 upgrade is from Debian Jessie. If you use Debian Testing there's no need to upgrade libc6. And again FWIW my deb stable e18 is working just fine. Sorry to disappoint everyone
