They could switch to a different movie. How about the dwarves in Snow White and the Seven Dwarves? Debian Sneezy and Debian Grumpy. Kind of catchy. Or they could start creating their own names, like Narly Quetzequatle. Oh wait. That has already been done. Of course, there is nothing wrong with no names. Debian 9, Debian 10, etc.

I can only guess but i suppose that they will go with the obvious choice: recycling!
After Jessie it is buzz-2 and then rex-2, bo-2 etc. Of course they could change the order of appearance just for more fun.

The next best alternative would be to choose random names of other distros: Debian GNU/Linux 9 Fedora, Debian GNU/Linux 10 Slackware, Debian GNU/Linux 11 Arch Linux etc maybe even specific releases like Debian GNU/Linux 12 Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Hardy Heron. The purpose of this would be to pay tribute to the big FOSS community (hag) and spread love but the downside would be that the names will never end so no recycling will be needed in the future.

I haven't installed Debian Zurg or Debian Pricklepants yet, no need to panic.

How about a tribute to Charles Schultz and use all the Peanuts character names, Lucy, Charlie, Linus, Snoopy etc. ?

I wonder if they'll ever use "RC". That'd get a bit confusing during beta testing.

The name is 'Stretch', https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stretch_%28Toy_Story%29 . Sory for bumping an old thread though.

rc-buggy is a permanent codename for Experimental, I believe - being a pun on "Release Critical buggy".

I always thought that it stood for Release Candidate: Buggy.

RC bug is normally rendered as 'release critical bug' (I think, anyway).

But who knows. Riddles wrapped in enigmas, dipped in puns :)

Would a Debian "Dory" be a privacy focused release? Every hour or so it forgets what it was focused on?

My faves are Debhat, Lenndows, Poettian, systemDebian, Sheepian and Redian. They could also call it the Ben Dover edition.

As things unfortunately stand, the best name I can think of, is Pink Hat. Another one is, Broken-Promises, and yet another one is, SICDIMM for Social Contracts Don't Make Money (The Is were introduced for pronounciation)
