Can't install wine:i386 on jessie due to unmet dependencies

#1 Post by jbssm »

Hi all.

I've been trying for the last 3 days to get wine32 installed on jessie to no avail in an amd64 platform

I've added the i386 platform:

Code: Select all

dpkg --add-architecture i386 && apt update
Then tried to install wine:i386 (it fail installing wine-development:i386 as well):
morgado@macmini:~$ clear

Code: Select all

user:~$ sudo apt install wine:i386
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 wine:i386 : Depends: wine64:i386 (>= 1.6.2-20) but it is not installable or
wine32:i386 (>= 1.6.2-20) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
And this is my sources list:

Code: Select all

deb http://ftp.pt.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.pt.debian.org/debian/ jessie main contrib non-free

deb http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free

# jessie-updates, previously known as 'volatile'
deb http://ftp.pt.debian.org/debian/ jessie-updates main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.pt.debian.org/debian/ jessie-updates main contrib non-free
Perhaps unrelated but I was trying to install the xbmc package and something funny happened that apt didn't get the dependencies automatically and I has to specifically tell him about 3 dependencies in order to install using the following command, since apt was not picking them up automatically:

Code: Select all

sudo apt install xbmc xbmc-bin libtag1c2a libtag1-vanilla
I wonder if this means there is something wrong with my debian installation since it's a fresh one from 3 days ago.

I did not install it, but my Synaptic package manager from Jessie show me a/o:
Win64...
(I've used the AMD 64 iso from Debian 8.1)

Yes, but wine64 doesn't run 32bit windows packages and I need the 32bit ones.

Yes, but it's just a palceholder name for the wine64 package (or the wine 32 in case the dependencies where working correctly, which they aren't for me at least).

dpkg --add-architecture i386 && apt update
Is this a typo? Should be apt-get.

Hi.

It's the same actually. In newer versions of Debian apt has this pretty print in xterms. But I tried with both apt-get and apt.

Tried. Gives similar errors:

Code: Select all

user:~$ sudo apt-get install wine32:i386

Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done

I just did the same as you on a 64bit machine and it works normally.
2 things that could be it:

1. you're using a local Debian server mirror that has problems. Try changing the mirror.
2. you've mixed repositories and didn't tell us.

If you "really" did not mix repos in your system then ignore this post 8)

Yes, I did had mixed unstable for installing kodi, but kodi kept crashing and I removed it and the repositories.

May that be the problem? How do I check it and solve it?

You reinstall, just like everyone else in the thread that Ardouos pointed you to. And you learn never to mix repos again.

We're trying to fix a similarly b0rked system over at forums.bunsenlabs.org -- maybe you can glean some hints from there:

That's maybe one way.. I would prefer a clean installation of such a young system of 3 days... then try Wine again... and if it fails.. report exactly what you did and what the logs are... so not as you did before....

There is a Jessie-built Kodi 15.1 in the MX 15 test repository. It'll also have to pull in a backported libcec from there.
