I keep getting logged out.
I keep getting logged out.
Hi.
I get logged out of Debian User Forums too often.
I have forums.debian.net and debian.net added to my cookie white-list in Firefox. I do not have this issue with the LinuxQuestions.org forum.
I checked the box to automatically log me in when I enter my password.
Is there a remedy?

Re: I keep getting logged out.
Why do you have "debian.net", ? there is no such thing,..it should be "debian.org"
But I don't think that is the reason, I don't know, I have never had this problem
myself, the only time I may need to login again is after
I clean the cache , on my browser.
Maybe some setting on yours is doing that, clearing the cache, or something.

Re: I keep getting logged out.
I just tried debian.net because it's part of forums.debian.net -- I doubt the cache is an issue as my logins remain on other sites.GarryRicketson wrote:Why do you have "debian.net", ? there is no such thing,..it should be "debian.org"

Re: I keep getting logged out.
I don't know what it could be, then,... Nobody else seems to
be having this problem here,..or if they are they never have mentioned
it.
It seems to me like if it was a problem with forum software, phpBB,
there would be a lot of others having the problem.
Are you sure you are not "clicking" the "logout" button, when you leave
the forum,... ?
If I was having this kind of problem, I would take a close look at my
browser settings, another way to check,...does this still occur if
you do use a different browser ?

I never click logout on the forum.
I've yet to try another browser.
In my FF cookie whitelist, I've since added https://forums.debian.net as well as keeping http://forums.debian.net there also. No forced logout yet.
Would the fact that this forum is in http and not https have anything to do with it?

Re: I keep getting logged out.
No, I don't think so, I manage several other phpBB forums, and they are all httpWould the fact that this forum is in http and not https have anything to do with it?
and never have encountered this,
This forum, though I am not a administrator, but I don't think there is anything
a admin could do anyway.
How ever , note in this FAQ, it does not say much, but it does not recommend
staying logged in, especially if it is a shared computer ,
http://forums.debian.net/faq.php
When you stay logged in, even though you are not connected there is a much higher
chance somebody else could gain access via your account.
I also do not recommend using that feature, and staying logged in, actually on any forum or web site, even when it is https..
It is a "convenient" when one has several sites they are managing or administer, and does save a little bit of time when you check each one.
Even, when I logout , it is no big deal, the cache and "cookies" thing on my browser
remember my user name and password, all I need to do is connect, and click "login".
I am curious, about something,... Who is your internet provider ? (your ISP), ?

@Garry.
My ISP is Digiweb.
BTW, I am still logged in.

I'm still logged in since I added the https entry to my cookie whitelist.
Would using httpsevery addon have anything to do with this? Even though my url on this site is still http://forums.debian.net.

Here's my Firefox Privacy settings with the cookie whitelist.

Attachments, How to post a screen shot and use code boxes
I don't know why that would make a difference , but if it does, then
use that.
I was under the impression adding the https entry had solved this ?Rildebai wrote:I'm still logged in since I added the https entry to my cookie whitelist.

@GarryRicketson
My login has remained. The https entry must have solved it. I just posted the image to show exactly what I was talking about before. I could not resize the image without it becoming unreadable. Perhaps I should have just posted the image link and folk can open it in a dedicated tab.
I recall I also had an issue with another website where it used https but I needed to add its old http entry in my Firefox cookie whitelist to get the site working properly. The opposite case in that situation.

I just checked the forum a few minutes ago and I was logged out. So my consistent login lasted about 7-10 days.

Re: I keep getting logged out.
I think that is normal, the same happens to me every so often, even on some
other forums, and one is a SMF, forum.
I really don't know what effects that, but I might go several weeks not having
to log in, other times in a week, I think different things, can cause it, for example
here we get power failures, and if the power fails , while I am connected, it is almost
for sure, next time I connect, I will have to log in. Also my internet connection is
not that good, and sometimes I lose the connection unexpectedly, when I re-connect
I probably will need to login,...and then for sure , when I clean my browser caches,
I will have to not only login, but re-enter my password.
The administrator, of a phpBB forum, also do need to "clean the caches", on the data base and phpBB software, every so often, when they do that, it may effect the
"stay logged in", ...

@Garry
I never thought of the cache cleaning on the forums. Thanks for the info.

Re: I keep getting logged out.
Another thing is , there is a setting in the forums settings that determines how many days
a user can stay logged in.
For example, on a phpbb forum I recently installed, it is set at 30 days,
I do not know what this one is set at, only the forum administrator has access
to that and can change it.
I set it at 0
But like I said that is a different site/board, not here.
a user can stay logged in.

I do not know what this one is set at, only the forum administrator has access

Code: Select all
Allow persistent logins:
Determines whether users can autologin when they visit the board.
Yes No
Persistent login key expiration length (in days):
Number of days after which persistent login keys are removed or zero to disable.
