I have a HP M277 MFP printer\scanner\fax machine. Using basic cups it prints with out issue (using the generic HP colour laserjet driver). I am not interested in Fax but what I would like to be able to do is to be able to scan via the PC (at the moment I have to use the control panel on the MFP). The printer\scanner is on my LAN. I have tried Xsane but that does not find anything. According to HPLIP my scanner is supported under Debian 8 but I need a plugin driver (which is not part of the standard HPLIP install) but I don't seem to be able to download it. I get an error about the check sum being wrong and the download could be corrupted (although I don't see the download)
The instruction I have are from here
http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/in ... setup.html
Any suggestion?

Re: HP 277M MFP can not find scanner
At what stage in those instructions ( http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/in ... setup.html ) do you get the error message? I mean, how far do you get until the message appears?
And also, what's the exact error message it gives you? Could you copy-paste it here?
Edit: You mentioned that the scanner/printer is on your LAN. Is it possible for you to connect it to your computer through USB, or is it too far away? (and does the scanner/printer actually have the ability to connect directly via USB?) If possible that might be easier than getting it working over LAN.

Re: HP 277M MFP can not find scanner
I run sudo hp-setup in a terminal and this is what follows
I am running the XFCE desktop so I have to run the (about 9 lines down at the start of the code)
I am not running pure Debian, I am running Solydxk which is built on Debian testing
I am thinking the issue is at the HP end?
Yes the MFP is on my network and I connect to it via my PC LAN. I also have another 4 PC which also connect to the MFP via the LAN so not really an option to connect via USB.

Re: HP 277M MFP can not find scanner
It's hard to tell, it looks like it could be. But it might also be a compatibility problem with your distro, I notice that there was a message saying "warning: solydxk distro is not found in AUTH_TYPES" at some point in the hp-setup output.I am thinking the issue is at the HP end?
Did you try downloading the plugin from the HP website, and using the 'p' option and specifying the path to it?
Did you try running 'hp-plugin' as a normal user?

I don't think soPost by xendistar »

I do use Debian, "Old stable" , but stable (Wheezy)Post by xendistar » I am not running pure Debian, I am running Solydxk which is built on Debian testing
and also have a HP printer, the "hplip" package in
the Debian repos works just fine, I did need to get
a newer more up to date driver , from the HP site,
for the Debian wheezy, but with that everything works fine.
On the VM with Debian Stable, Jessie, the "hplip" package
in the Debian repos was complete and every thing
worked/works just fine.
I don't know about non-Debian distros, but a search on
" What is Debian testing" might give you some clue, then
it is compounded by the fact that it is no longer even Debian,
who know what all they have added or removed, maybe
the developers at "Solydxk" could give some insight on that,
I am sure they have a forum, or some sort of support,
a search would show. I had never heard of "Solydxk" untill
now.
Maybe try installing Debian stable, and see how that works.
The HP and hplip packages also work just fine on , MX-14, MX-15,
and also on my OPenBsd installation.

Re: HP 277M MFP can not find scanner
Thanks for the info guys.
I had a bit more time to play with this and I have managed to find the plugin and its associated .asc file via google which I downloaded. I was then able to point the hp-setup (as normal users, it ask for sudo password later) to the location of the downloaded plugin and install it. There were a lot of QT errors (I am running XFCE) so I don't have any QT installed. There was no setup of the scanner only printer and fax, but now Sane can see my scanner but I have not had time to test it yet.
I installed HPLip when I first setup the MFP so why it does not install this plugin (or at least offer to) I don't know.
Thanks again for the help.

Hi there,
Ran into the same problem with similar scanner. You CAN start the gui for the hp-setup by installing the hp-gui packet. Try:
That will also install the PyQT4/5 dependencies.
