[ARTICLE] Debian vs. Fedora

#1 Post by arochester »

Debian Linux and the Fedora Project are among the most influential Linux distributions of all time. Not only are both Debian and Fedora among the top ten for page hits on Distrowatch, but many of the other top ten are derived from them. But why would you pick one over another?

My mate always says to me Fedora is the top distro, he has his reasons, While i once said Gentoo or Arch but i chosed to use Debian instead.
Debian is my OS mate and my friend.

In my opinion: the distro that make you happy, is the best. For me is Debian that fill all my requirements.

Both Fedora/Debian are great distro, They're serving free (ok, not everything:)) but almost.

I use Debian on my home desktop for daily home tasks. Mail, Browser, Youtube, Music, Video, Sharing, Offices, little coding etc...

Edit: thanks for the link, it was good reading...

I think Debian wins in 2 areas:
1. Supported architectures
2. Detailed installation procedure with an Expert installer for difficult situations.

Other than that, it's personal choice.

Debian's core distribution is stable while Fedora is always on the move. CentOS would be more comparable to Debian.
DebianStable

Code: Select all

$ vrms

No non-free or contrib packages installed on debian! rms would be proud.
