I tried that first, but there is nothing in the etch one. I used the dapper one because it only installed new packages for me, didn't touch anything else when I installed e17, so I new it would be ok.t is not advisable to use Ubuntu repositories with Debian. They are not compatible. Sure, you might get away with some things but it is not recommended. Besides, there is a repo for Debian already.ORCode: Select all

I can only imagine what sort of entertainment you might find if you were to actually mix the repositories.Code: Select all

You're better off using Debian unstable on Etch than anything Ubuntu.markupstart wrote: I tried that first, but there is nothing in the etch one. I used the dapper one because it only installed new packages for me, didn't touch anything else when I installed e17, so I new it would be ok.

Just to confirm, this is the repo to use. I just installed e17 on this box 2 days ago. It works fine.

Hi Ya!
Just thought I'd pop in & say hi. I've been running e17 since '05, and I've installed it, from source, on woody, Linspire-5.0, sarge, Freespire-1.0 & 2.0, gNewSense, etch and lenny (my daily ride) as well as a few others. The thing is, my current lenny version doesna look much different then my first install on woody. Here is a link to the CNR-Warehouse site which I added some screen shots of Enlightenment to the other day.
I must say despite my tendency for installing from source, I've learned quit a bit from this thread, thanks.
Cheers

Are you sure that you use debian etch repo like so:steelheart wrote:I tryed this http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?p=43644#43644 and I get this :

http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?p=43644#43644 here says that sid repo. works on etch.
I guess i will have to install e17 in an alternative way than apt-get install e17....
I tend to build e17 from source (I know that it can be a bit labour intensive, but it usually works) because the cvs is more up to date. I did write a wee how to for freespire, Installing Enlightenment DR-17. It is now of course a bit out dated (there is a surprise) but I have used it to build e17 on etch & lenny as well as some other deb based distros. Any errors that seem to come up usually just requireres an apt-get <what is missing> to continue.

I haven't been using E17 lately. I only have E17 in Sid repo, had it in etch a long time ago but not now.
Enlightment's homepage got a new look:
http://www.enlightenment.org/
http://packages.debian.org/stable/x11/enlightenment
Don't use the edevelop.org repo, use the debian etch repo instead for E16.

There should be enlightenment (E16) in Etch repo:Currently Enlightenment 0.17 (known as E17) is under development with a TODO list that is being worked on for release. The base libraries it depends on EFL (Enlightenment Foundation Libraries) are very mature and stable. There are other applications that use these too. E17 itself is primarily available via CVS.
But despite this, the stable release of Enlightenment (the 0.16 series) is still alive and maintained. It is not dead and does undergo feature adds, fixes and improvements.

Stable is meant to only get changes from crippling bugs and security updates (except of course when the stable link is moved to point to a new debian release)stoffepojken wrote:The stable and testing repos are dead.
Testing normally gets most stuff not too long after unstable, the exception is when a transition (such as the recent libc one) blocks things up.

Security updates and crippling bugs? We are talking about E17. There are crippling bugs all the time. I think you misunderstood me...plugwash wrote:Stable is meant to only get changes from crippling bugs and security updates (except of course when the stable link is moved to point to a new debian release)stoffepojken wrote:The stable and testing repos are dead.

E17 - debian Etch
Hello guys!
I know this is an old topic but I got confused when I see those posts. I want to install E17 on my Etch box, all I need is step by step. I have been looking on google all the day but I didn't see anything useful.
I'll be more than happy if someone can guide me step by step. Hope I will get a reply soon.
Thank you

Four posts up I have a link for instructions for building from source. If ya want to go that route, let me know.Ergo wrote:Hello guys!
