Are we going to have to pry the exact information out of you as to how and what the "several Flash players" were installed, or do we just have to guess?

Have you enabled the non-free repository?

The last time I looked, Debian pepperflashplugin-nonfree was still broken, and one had to do a manual install or use something like bunsen-pepperflash. I suspect that the gnome-xfce "switch" was actually a reinstall that exposed this issue.

For those giving advice to use Debian's pepperflashplugin-nonfree, how about if you test it first to see if it's working for yourself?

Install it and run

Code: Select all

update-pepperflashplugin-nonfree --status
as sysadmin

to see what's installed. By the way, the 22 version of the plugin is old and with security flaws.

Or I guess Bunsen Labs just decided to spend the time to write bunsen-pepperflash for the lulz and not because the Debian version is broken. :?

The pepper flash plugin package no longer works because Chrome is no longer shipped with a flash plugin for security reasons. The package cannot therefore extract it from Chrome and move it to the right folder in Chromium. You will have to install the plugin manually.

Download the PPAPI (tar.gz) plugin here https://get.adobe.com/fr/flashplayer/otherversions/

The plugin has to be placed in /usr/lib/pepperflashplugin-nonfree/libpepflashplayer.so

Download the PPAPI (tar.gz) plugin here https://get.adobe.com/fr/flashplayer/otherversions/
Download the PPAPI's flash plugin from adobe, and you just need to edit with the right path and version to the adobe's library:
Example:
gksudo gedit /etc/chromium/default

Code: Select all

# Default settings for chromium. This file is sourced by /bin/sh from
# /usr/bin/chromium
# Options to pass to chromium
CHROMIUM_FLAGS="--ppapi-flash-path=/home/user/.local/chromium/lib/lib/plugins/v21/libpepflashplayer.so --ppapi-flash-version=21.0.0.242"

If you enable the non-free http://www.deb-multimedia.org repository, there is a package called "flashplayer-chromium".
This installed libpepflashplayer.so in /usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/
Then just make sure that the flashplayer-chromium.conf file in /etc/chromium.d/ points to the correct location (see below).
The only two files I have in /etc/chromium.d/ is the apikeys and flashplayer-chromium.conf. That should be all you need.
Test if it's working by typing chrome://flash into chromium's url box.

This repository should stay up-to-date with the latest release version from Adobe: https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
This way, you don't have to keep manually downloading updates.

/etc/chromium.d/flashplayer-chromium.conf

Code: Select all

# Make sure that Chromium finds the plugin:
flash_library="/usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libpepflashplayer.so"
flash_version=$(grep '"version":' /usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/manifest.json | cut -d\" -f4)

if [ -f $flash_library ]; then
  CHROMIUM_FLAGS="$CHROMIUM_FLAGS --ppapi-flash-path=$flash_library --ppapi-flash-version=$flash_version"
fi

Change your 'stable' to 'jessie' or you'll get a "surprise upgrade" when Stretch is released.
