About using color temperature Apps

#1 Post by bester69 »

Im used to work in darkness, with just the TV on in back of the room and a small lamp next to it, but today i began to use Readshift (or flux) , and i wasnt get used to it, so im feeling so unconfortable with screen's range low temperatures, I suppose its because its first day..

What do you thing about these kind of apps??, does it really worth it?, does it really work with our eyes helthy?

Its really weird all this, when i move the head the screen change of colors,my eyes are really getting crazy with this program, im thinking of getting back to normal temperature. :x

by the way, I always use zero brignetess level, perhaps, thats the reason i dont feel bad with hight temperatures in the darkness.

It took some fiddling and time before I got used to using redshift. I have redshift configured such that the color temperature reduces to 5000K (from 6500K) instead of the default 3500K. 3500K was too pink with all the grey in my Xfce configuration. I also have the brightness adjusted to less than full in both daylight and nightime settings.

In fact here is my config file, it's a modified version of something I found online.....maybe from the authors website.

Code: Select all

; Global settings for redshift
[redshift]
; Set the day and night screen temperatures
temp-day=6500
temp-night=5000

; Set the screen brightness. Default is 1.0
brightness-day=.90
brightness-night=.75
; Set the screen gamma (for all colors, or each color channel individually)
;gamma=0.8
;gamma=0.8:0.7:0.8

; Set the location-provider: 'geoclue', 'gnome-clock', 'manual'
; type 'redshift -l list' to see possible values
; The location provider settings are in a different section.
location-provider=manual

; Set the adjustment-method: 'randr', 'vidmode'
; type 'redshift -m list' to see all possible values
; 'randr' is the preferred method, 'vidmode' is an older API
; but works in some cases when 'randr' does not.
; The adjustment method settings are in a different section.
adjustment-method=randr

; Configuration of the location-provider:
; type 'redshift -l PROVIDER:help' to see the settings
; e.g. 'redshift -l manual:help'
[manual]
lat=xx.x
lon=-xx.x

; Configuration of the adjustment-method
; type 'redshift -m METHOD:help' to see the settings
; ex: 'redshift -m randr:help'
; In this example, randr is configured to adjust screen 1.
; Note that the numbering starts from 0, so this is actually the second screen.
[randr]
screen=0
I used to turn it off a lot, but not anymore.

ok, Im going to use these settings, i saw i feel myself good with 5600 for nightime, so i will change that parameter. And for gamma in kde i find 0,95 its the best.

thanks.
