What parts of Gnome do you run, outside of Gnome?
I use Xfce and Openbox, but I typically install the Gnome system monitor. What parts of Gnome do you find handy to use, outside of a full blown Gnome desktop environment? I've tried the Mate system monitor, several times, but always switch back to the Gnome version.

From the top of my mind I use an old version of gthumb (version 3.2.9.1) and gnome-search-tool.
Then I have Engrampa and atril, the MATE forks of file-roller and Evince. I find the new Gnome interface confusing.

Re: What parts of Gnome do you run, outside of Gnome?
Back in the earlier days of MATE I had to install the full Gnome desktop to get features that MATE lacked. Had to log off and then log in using Gnome to do lots of things. Drove me nuts since I hate Gnome 3 with a passion. Not as much as Unity, but close.
As MATE has matured and more has been replaced/forked there isn't that much. Actually 107 packages, but they're mostly themes/icon sets and stuff. Gnome keyring still comes with MATE but, actually actively used, backintime, network-manager, gparted, gdebi and brasero.
Now if you'd asked what parts of Gnome do I have that I'd readily get rid of (if I could), then Caja (Nautilus) would be top of the list.

this is a tricky, unclear question.No_windows wrote:What parts of Gnome
i simply did
Code: Select all
apt search gnome | grep installed
but depending on your definition of Gnome the list is much longer.
arguably the whole gtk toolkit, all versions, is gnome.
hell, even GLib.
most applications that were around 10 years ago are "somehow gnome".

Only because you're making it too hard. What parts of Gnome did you purposely install that wouldn't have been been installed by your preferred WM/DE?debiman wrote:this is a tricky, unclear question.No_windows wrote:What parts of Gnome
Someone else mentioned Evince........ I also use it, but not as universally as the Gnome-System-Monitor.

Did you purposely install it, or did it get dragged in by something else? I have it on both my Xfce and Openbox install, but didn't do it purposely.4D696B65 wrote:gvfs-backends in xfce4

I'm running OpenBox here. It don't have to be super light, I just want the programs to behave the way I want them to.No_windows wrote: What is you windows manager, or desktop environment?

I purposely installed it. I start with a cli system and build up. No big metapackages.No_windows wrote:Did you purposely install it, or did it get dragged in by something else? I have it on both my Xfce and Openbox install, but didn't do it purposely.4D696B65 wrote:gvfs-backends in xfce4
