[SOLVED] Unable to drag and drop to Wine windows

#1 Post by andoru »

For a while now I've been unable to dnd in Wine windows (specifically drop to foobar2000), and I'm not sure what causes this. Previously I've been able to do that without any problems, but one day (possibly after an update) foobar2000 would either not receive the command, or the window "behind" foobar2000 would recieve the drop (so the file manager window under foobar2000 would receive the drag, asking me if I'm sure that I want to copy the files)
I've tried the following FMs: Thunar, Nemo, SpaceFM, PCManFM. With Thunar I'm able to make it work somehow, by dragging stuff within the foobar2000 window, then dragging the media files I want to queue from Thunar. For the other FMs though, I was unable to make any of them work as expected.
Does anyone know what I could do to fix this issue?
I've tried to search around, but could not find anything relevant to my issue, except a few posts on Ubuntu forums pertaining to old Wine versions.
Speaking of which... here's the wine version I'm using:

Code: Select all

$ apt policy wine
wine:
  Installed: 1.8.6-5
  Candidate: 1.8.6-5
  Version table:
 *** 1.8.6-5 500
        500 http://ftp.plusline.de/pub/debian unstable/main amd64 Packages
        500 http://ftp.plusline.de/pub/debian unstable/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
EDIT: tl;dr - fixed this issue by installing gdiplus_winxp within winetricks.

Yeah, I can search too. That thread didn't have any solution that works. Forgot to mention that...

They'll probably try and get you to use the newest version?
Latest Releases
Stable:
Wine 2.0 (shortlog)
Development:
Wine 2.3 (shortlog)
So be sure and backup.

hmmm, actually I find that 2.0 is available in jessie-backports, why are you using the plusonline source?

plusline.de is a local debian mirror, it's what has the lowest latency and fastest download speeds for me. It has the same packages as the main mirrors. Also I'm using the sid repositories.
If wine-development is what you're talking about, I have just installed the 2.0-3 version which is the latest availabe in the repos:

Code: Select all

$ apt policy wine-development
wine-development:
  Installed: 2.0-3
  Candidate: 2.0-3
  Version table:
 *** 2.0-3 500
        500 http://ftp.plusline.de/pub/debian unstable/main amd64 Packages
        500 http://ftp.plusline.de/pub/debian unstable/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
Is this required for troubleshooting with the wine folks, or for solving my problem?

Maybe I misunderstood your problem, can you explain it a little more? What I meant was why are you using an unstable repo source when jessie-backports has a newer version?

Absolutely rquired and mandatory, but not guaranteed to solve it.
Also I'm using the sid repositories.
Okay, using the sid repositories for wine, right?

Because ATM I don't know how to selectively use repos for specific packages.
My problem with wine is that I can't properly drag and drop files to foobar2000, or other Windows apps.

No, I'm using the sid repository for everything, including wine.

Well, then we're all supposed to be mean and tell you that you can't play in our yard no more, mom says you're evil...

Nah just kidding, but really if you're running unstable, then this seems a minor annoyance, right? Maybe it's some library that got updated, how do you know it's a wine issue?

It's gotten to a point when it's no longer a minor annoyance, haha.

I've had this issue for over 4 months now, I hardly think that's the case.
I kept on waiting and updating, hoping that this issue might be fixed over time, but it's not..
bw123 wrote:how do you know it's a wine issue?
Because it only happens with applications that run under wine. I can drag and drop just fine in other native applications.

Bumping...

I've also noticed that this happens with some QT applications as well (like MKVToolNix GUI)

Sorry for the double post. I followed on Wine's suggestions from the wiki, got the latest development build through their repo (https://wiki.winehq.org/Debian), and I managed to get some relevant stuff to show in stdout:

Code: Select all

fixme:xdnd:X11DRV_XDND_DROPEFFECTToXdndAction unknown drop effect 0, assuming XdndActionCopy
fixme:xdnd:X11DRV_XDND_DROPEFFECTToXdndAction unknown drop effect 0, assuming XdndActionCopy
fixme:xdnd:X11DRV_XDND_DROPEFFECTToXdndAction unknown drop effect 0, assuming XdndActionCopy
fixme:xdnd:X11DRV_XDND_DROPEFFECTToXdndAction unknown drop effect 0, assuming XdndActionCopy
fixme:xdnd:X11DRV_XDND_DROPEFFECTToXdndAction unknown drop effect 0, assuming XdndActionCopy
But this would happen when drag and drop would work, not when it doesn't, so I assume out of this that it's not a Wine issue.
Does anyone happen to know what interfaces between Thunar (or other file managers) and Wine (or other applications)?

If anyone still has this issue, I've fixed it by installing gdiplus_winxp under winetricks. I initially installed it to fix a different issue, but this has fixed the problem with drag and drop. Also fixed some lagging/choppy audio in foobar2000 while doing certain file operations.
