nvidia GTX 980 Ti: Wrong resolution on fresh install

#1 Post by quadgun »

Installed Debian this night and the resolution is wrong

Available resolutions are only up to 1024x768

Graphics card: Nvidia GTX 980 Ti

I need the resolution to be 1920x1080, preferably without installing the proprietary drivers. How can I do that?

If that card dates from after Debian 8's 2014 freeze date, the open driver has very little chance of supporting it. Your option are:

1: The proprietary driver.
2: Trying the next Debian in testing, Stretch.
3: Backporting or finding a backport of a newer nouveau (open) driver that supports your card.
