Nobody would ever ask questions If everyone possessed encyclopedic knowledge of the man pages.

hi, thanks for your help! non free is fixed now. another problem is that i can't see wireless networks around, i can't even see the wireless icon.

when i boot, it says i should go to http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/b43#devicefirmware and download the correct firmware for this driver version.

i have tried to do "apt-get install firmware-b43-installer" but it doesn't find the driver.

i do not know what to do anymore. i even downloaded the firmware and tried to install with package installer and it said "unspecified transaction error" :)

i guess i'm trying to ask; how do i installl b43 firmware, or how do i get my wifi to work

Start at the link I posted.
Identify your device.
If you do indeed have a bcm43xx device look here:
https://wiki.debian.org/bcm43xx

No difference to what?

Post what you are doing and what output you get.

I have an old laptop (Dell Inspiron 1545) that uses Broadcom 4312 (Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01)) and I simply have to install firmware-b43-installer and it picks up without issue (after reboot), one thing to look for is if your wifi is disabled in some way, this would prevent you from seeing AP's.
