Re: Installation from usb stick : strech 9.0.0
1) Where did you get the ISO from?
2) How did you install the ISO to the USB stick?
2) How did you install the ISO to the USB stick?
Re: Installation from usb stick : strech 9.0.0
Just to add what arochester has asked, could you provide a link to the ISO you downloaded, and tell us what media you're using for installation.

Hello.
I used torrent link in Debian homepage. 64bit.
Installed to usb stick using dd method.
Booted Up nicely.
Could not find any " install to harddrive" icon on desktop.
Then used install from boot menu
Noluck.
Rgds.

Re: Installation from usb stick : strech 9.0.0
I have attempted a VirtualBox install using the new Stable (Stretch) live-cd (xfce version obtained from Debian) and have found that it "does not detect cdrom" and cannot continue with the installation, I tried both the install and graphical install options and both have the same result. I will be testing one of the standard install images next as I'm sure the problem will not arise there.
Conclusion: I think the live-cd's are more for evaluation and testing (at the moment) and you would likely get a better installation experience from using an install image (netinst would be my next choice) mainly due to the fact that Stretch has only just become "Stable" and there may need to be some creases ironed out. The netinst image does require a network connection to be able to install so it could be a problem if you have a wifi only system (like me) that requires non-free firmware, but if you have a ethernet connection it usually will not give you any problems.

Re: Installation from usb stick : strech 9.0.0
Thanks.
I have come to the same conclusion.
The live media are not for installing yet.
I have installed hundreds off various dists using usb.
I go for the netinstaller.
Thanks

From https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities ... 4705?hl=enMany users have reported this error does not recognize the CD-Rom when trying to install Debian by USB stick, see this matter to resolve the issue.

Re: Installation from usb stick : strech 9.0.0
Same error here: upon downloading Debian 9 LXDE Live image, and writing it on a USB stick with Rufus (ISO), the graphical installer loads, but after selecting locale on "Load installer components from CD" step it shows me the following message: "There was a problem reading data from the CD-ROM. Please make sure it is in the drive. If retrying does not work, you should check the integrity of your CD-ROM. Failed to copy file from CD-ROM. Retry? No / Yes"
Previously (with Jessie Live CD) everything worked well.

Re: Installation from usb stick : strech 9.0.0
I downloaded the gnome version with the same results. I even burned to dvd, but it stilll complains. Why would a 2.2gb iso think its on a cd. Tried loopback, with same results

Re: Installation from usb stick : strech 9.0.0
Just now tried this method. My usb iso was already mounted as CDROM. So that trick didn't work.arochester wrote:From https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities ... 4705?hl=enMany users have reported this error does not recognize the CD-Rom when trying to install Debian by USB stick, see this matter to resolve the issue.

Re: Installation from usb stick : strech 9.0.0
When I switch consoles and check it says /cdrom is already mounted from /dev/sr0 (VirtualBox)
Re: Installation from usb stick : strech 9.0.0
The DVD iso here works fine. It's just bigger.

Re: Installation from usb stick : strech 9.0.0
This ISO gets me further into installation, but freezes when I choose a network mirror. Or not choose one, doesn't matter. Could it be, that not all mirrors have been updated yet?ptn107 wrote:The DVD iso here works fine. It's just bigger.

Re: Installation from usb stick : strech 9.0.0
Same issues. Was slightly shocked when the GNOME ISO didn't work. Net install worked flawlessly [the second time, anyway - the first was a torrent and didn't work, the download from the Debian site did work, on the other hand].
Re: Installation from usb stick : strech 9.0.0
I also downloaded the gnome from that torrent site. What is the iso location from debian that worked?Lysander wrote:Same issues. Was slightly shocked when the GNOME ISO didn't work. Re: Installation from usb stick : strech 9.0.0
I got that exact same error in the GNOME iso and couldn't get past it. As for the install that worked, it was just the net install on the top right hand corner when I visited the front page of the Debian site at https://www.debian.org, given as https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current/amd64/iso-cd/debian-9.0.0-amd64-netinst.iso.vmclark wrote:I also downloaded the gnome from that torrent site. They already id'ed the problem. If you go to the Bug#865015 link I listed and follow the responses you'll see Steve is working on a fix.Lysander wrote:I got that exact same error in the GNOME iso and couldn't get past it. Re: Installation from usb stick : strech 9.0.0
I try to install from USB stick with pppoe module enabled this image: debian-9.0.0-amd64-netinst.iso
I got the error :
The failing step is: Configure and start a PPPoE connection
The problem is ... debian-8.7.1-amd64-netinst.iso not work also.
If sameone are solution for me please let me know; btw i don't want graphics interfaces.. just server.
It is possible to install minimal from DVD images?

Re: Installation from usb stick : strech 9.0.0
On Windows, there is a program that is recommended by the Debian Wiki to create a live usb.
Win32 Disk Imager
https://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/
Fully working.
