Lots of unused packages after upgrade

#1 Post by niclasc »

I upgraded to debian 9 yesterday and now I have over 100 packages that according to apt-get is not used and can be removed.

Is it safe to remove them?

Depends on what packages. Can you show the output of

Code: Select all

apt-get autoremove
?

You dont have to confirm it, just copy the contents and paste them here as code.

It is normal to have some excess packages after the upgrade. Most of them are metapackages. Google the term to learn more.

Its a standard install of Debian 8 Mate. Only thing I installed extra is Chrome as a deb from google. Now after a upgrade to strech I get this:

sudo apt autoremove

A quick scan doesn't show me any userland programs going bye-bye, just unused runtime packages, so I'd bet that they are safe to remove.
