I had it installed last week and it seemed to work just fine for me, did you log into sugar by picking it at login ?

Re: sugar in stretch Xfce
Yes, that enviroment.
I did not install anything, it just comes with stretch Xfce.
Shows up in whisker like that ... At the moment, I think, it is just some crap. No documentation, nothing.

Re: sugar in stretch Xfce
oh, i see ... hmm no clue then.. MY IDEAS ARE: perhaps something not packaged right ? || perhaps you installed sugar during install by marking one of the Debian education packages for install?
have you looked to see if it is installed ... by looking for it with dpkg-query -l
something like
#dpkg-query -l sugar-browse-activity

Strange.

Re: sugar in stretch Xfce
Tested with debian-live-9.0.1-amd64-xfce.iso
Sugar is there and even a "goldendict 1.5.0~git20160508.g92b5485-1.1+b1" package. But that comes with all Debian flavors and that works.
Try to fill a bug report on "sugar" and might get an answer that way .....

Re: sugar in stretch Xfce
Placed a bug report #868296
and got a fast answer ...
and got a fast answer ...
something wrong with dependencies is my guess.
sugar-browse-activity is best used within the Sugar desktop, which
is the sucrose package on Debian.
sugar-activity provided by python-sugar3 package does not work
very well outside the Sugar user interface shell; just tried it then
and huge traceback because python-carquinyol wasn't installed, but
that's a recommends for python-jarabe so my mistake.
python-carquinyol installed and the sugar-browse-activity starts up,
but without any window manager decorations (in wmaker), because it is
written to be used within the Sugar desktop, which is a fullscreen app
design without windows.
sugar-browse-activity does suggest python-jarabe for the user
interface shell; perhaps it should require or recommend instead.
upstream has some more details if you're interested, see

not surprised forums didn't know, see also

Re: sugar in stretch Xfce
ya i know about sugar.. i've used it -- once or twice just to see what it was about . I would recommend it for peoples with children.. it's why i keep asking about installing it, because i knew that was part of, the desktop environment, however, i though it was called sugar-desktop not sucrose ), maybe i should have said that .. i thought you already knew that actually.
off topic i use Enlightenment E.21.8 my self WM (Window Manager), sorta a mix of everything desktop environment other wise..
