Having a strange problem with my wireless connection

#1 Post by dcihon »

I will first try to describe my issue and then supply some system information.
Problem:
When I first start my system the wireless is working just fine. After about a minute (I haven't timed it exactly) I loose the wireless connection.
It shows connected but no Internet connection working.
I disconnect and re connect and it works fine after that.

Here is what dmesg shows:

Sometimes dns resolution can fail. In this case, you are still connected but your system does not know how to get to where you want to go.
See https://nlp.stanford.edu/IR-book/html/h ... ion-1.html
You can test for this using

Code: Select all

ping 8.8.8.8
.

Now that dns resolution problems have been ruled out we can focus on the connection

There is a link, with a resolution, in this Mint forum thread for a similar problem with the ath9k driver.

I did what that link had in it and that didn't fix it for me:

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/ath9k.conf

Code: Select all

options ath9k nohwcrypt=1 blink=1 btcoex_enable=1 enable_diversity=1
Any idea what to try next?

I also noticed this.
When I start the system and leave it at the login prompt without logging in for a minute or so there is no connection to the Internet also.
I ran this command and it worked also, but doesn't stay working after reboot.
Also I installed atheros-firmware but that hasn't made any difference either.
Here is the command I ran after logging in:

Code: Select all

 systemctl restart network-manager.service

I noticed you're are running Buster/Sid which increases the possibility of an upstream problem. Does the card work with Debian 9.1? You can test with a live version.
