NetworkManager icon not visiible

i installed it on my system but the icon is missing i still see the wicd icon though.
i am trying to access my vpn and in this howto i should access the NM applet

You can have NetworkManager or wicd but not both. They conflict.

The icon issue has spawned several threads here. I can't remember which but you can probably find it.

ok. just typed nm-applet & after killing wicd from process reboot the machine and thats it.
