Dual Boot
Dual Boot
I have installed Windows 7 on one hard drive and Debian 9 (stretch) on another hard drive. How can I set up a dual boot setup? I want Windows 7 to be my primary operating system and use Windows Boot Manager to select between Windows 7 and Debian 9. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Re: Dual Boot
Installed Windows 7 on one hard drive. Installed Debian 9 on second separate hard drive. Able to configure Windows Boot Manager to select between Windows 7 or Debian 9. However, Debian 9 is not booting completely and I get a grub prompt.

Re: Dual Boot
grub4dos?
this seems wrong to me.
i'm guessing there's some efi issues here.
please read the debian wiki on how exactly to install debian on efi machines alongside windows.
retry and/or provide more information on the installation process (choices you made).

Re: Dual Boot
More information on install.
Windows 7 installed on a separate hard drive (sda)
Debian 9 installed on second separate hard drive (sdb)
Debian 9 was installed using the net install iso.
Used Gparted and made 3 partitions: 1) root (/), 2) swap, 3) remainder of space formatted in NTFS as it will be shared between Windows 7 and Debian for dual boot setup.
Grub was installed on (sdb)

Re: Dual Boot
I had some spare time to work on my Dual Boot issue.
After reading this article:
http://www.zdnet.com/article/seven-ways ... and-linux/
I found the only way I could Dual Boot successfully was the following:
1) Use the BIOS BOOT SELECT KEY. By pressing a function key on my keyboard, my motherboard has the option to boot from a specific device. But, I did not like this option as there were times I would not press the function key in time to get the boot menu.
2) Use GRUB2 as the bootloader. This was probably the easiset to setup. Let the Debian installer detect Windows 7 and install Grub to the master bootloader. I had Debian installed on /dev/sda and Windows installed on /deb/sdb.

I am still trying to figure out how to use WINDOWS BOOT MANAGER to dual boot Windows 7 and Debian 9 but I have had no success.
