Systemctl suspend cuts power

#1 Post by debidant »

Hi,

I'm on Stretch with Cinnamon.

I have troubles with suspend mode.

If I type "systemctl suspend" in maintenance mode my computer does not suspend but power off.

Here is some information:

Have you seen https://wiki.debian.org/Suspend

Does your computer have a MAKE and MODEL?

Yes, but it's mainly for wheezy.

My computer is self assembled. But I can give you some specs:
Board: ASUS M5A99X Evo
CPU: AMD 8-core in AM3+ Socket
Graphics card: ATI Radeon HD 6450
500 Watt PSU (Be Quiet)

Seems to be a hardware problem since live versions of Stretch, Ubuntu and Mint all behave the same.

It still makes me wonder as I have a second PC with the same board also on Stretch and it suspends fine. Maybe some UEFI setting?!?

Also with a high speed camera I captured the following error message after initiating the suspend command: "Failed to connect to bus: File or directory not found".

Any Ideas?

Try bypass systemd to directly suspend-to-RAM on your problematic machine:

Code: Select all

echo mem | sudo tee /sys/power/state

I will try that later.

The output is:

Code: Select all

freeze standby mem disk
Could it be theoretically also a bad or failing PSU? Would be hard to test although I have a spare unit as my rig is full of wires and devices (oh my god).

The "/sys/power/state" file show how kinds suspend is supported on your machine.
Detail Document:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Po ... 8swsusp.29
My test:

Code: Select all

$ cat /sys/power/state
freeze mem disk

Code: Select all

#Successful wakeup on my machine
echo mem | sudo tee /sys/power/state

Code: Select all

#Can't wakeup on my machine
echo freeze | sudo tee /sys/power/state

Just tried. No success either.

Tomorrow I'll try my spare PSU and report back later.

Now I tested with spare PSU and it doesn't shut off. It doesn't go to standby fully either but I think that is a software/UEFI tweaking thing.

Was a load of work with a lot of sweat and pain. ;-)

Now I have built in a completely new PSU (as my spare PSU is *loud*).

And what shall I say: Stadby works without a flaw.
