I would guess that the CUDA samples are tests to see if CUDA is working.

No. The only way to reduce the brightness is to wear sunglasses (no joke -- I'm wearing sunglasses now).
But do I need the samples? According to the wiki, I'm supposed to download the samples and test that they're present by adjusting the brightness.
Or should I just give up and call it finished?
