How to submit a bug report with no OS

#1 Post by gzcwnk »

Hi,

I have a problem with grub on a server. Everytime I try and upgrade grub it seg faults.

So I am currently trying to boot off a livecd but I am also getting a seg fault while booting into rescue mode so I have no OS installed.

So I need some help please or a method on submitting a debian bug with no OS present only a screenshot, which is here,

Step 1: Before you go wasting devs' time...

1a: Check for an existing bug report. Duplicate bug reports are not helpful.

1b: Identify in detail the exact steps necessary to reproduce the bug.
(To be clear: no repro steps, no bug report.)

Step 2: Motivate yourself enough to run a simple Web search like report debian bug, which will lead you here: https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting

Maybe we need a "sticky" on this, I have lost count on how many times the same question:
How to submit a bug report on Debian
The first 3 hits , all explain:
https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting
Sending the bug report via e-mail

You can report bugs in Debian by sending an e-mail to submit@bugs.debian.org with a special format described below. reportbug (see above) will properly format the e-mails for you; please use it!
But PLEASE, read the entire page, and look at the example. It also is available in
several languages.
How to submit a bug report with no OS
Obviously, and some logic, if you don't have the OS installed, you will need to
use the format examples they show, and manually , write the e-mail, according to
the correct format.

========
https://wiki.debian.org/reportbug
==========================
You can send the bug report by e-mail, I assume you know what that is, if not , a search
will yield plenty of explanations.
Since you were able to connect here, register and post, I am sure you have the means
to send a e-mail.
If you can not read, you may be out of luck, I didn't find any youtube videos on this
when I did the search for you,
your welcome. :D
================
I don't think it is a bug, but there is no where near enough details to try to guess at what the real problem is.
================
Is this the same system you are referring to in the other topic, that you made 6 posts too ?
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php? ... 67#p651067
The screen shots are not enough, you need to learn how to give good details.
This is probably why you are not getting any answers, there just is not enough details, etc.
======= edit: Disclaimer, apology in advance ============
First, I apologize if what I write seems snarky, or rude in some way, it is not intended that way, I really am trying to help you, and others that might read this, First things first,
Help the person understand How to ask a question the smart way, see the link in my
signature,.. this will help some people, others just get mad, and run away crying,...
Any way, the problem is there are not enough details, to really give a good answer on
the other posts, nor this one, beyond referring you to the links that explain how to submit a bug report.
Again, your welcome, and I am sorry if this is not any help, or the kind of help you want.
No need to comment, I won't bother your topic again.
