[Stretch - KDE] - gwenview rename...

#1 Post by Coline »

Hello,

On Jessie, I could rename all my pictures in gwenview, thanks to "external plugins"...But in the Stretch version, even after installing kipi-plugins, I can't rename all the pictures. It was super useful to rename using the date (via metadatas)...Do you know if there is a solution ? Thanks you.

I think the problem come from the kipi-plugin-batchprocess. It doesn't seem to exist on Stretch. I'm screwed I guess. :/

If you use the CLI, it is easy to rename a file, or a image:

Code: Select all

mv image-name.jpg New-image-name.jpg
If you want to keep a copy of the original:

Code: Select all

cp name.jpg new-name.jpg
Also most file managers are easy to just "click" the rename option , then
type in the new name.
I don't know about "gwenview", and all sorts of external plugins, sounds
way to complicated for me, and I am not that advanced.

If you need just renaming this could be useful for you: https://packages.debian.org/stretch/gprename

Does this help ? :
from: https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=82074OK, after writing the reply below I figured out how to do it with this "new" KDE 4.xx version of Gwenview.
Either right click on the image and then left click on "copy" or hit F7. Up will pop a panel and you can change the name and even copy it to another location all in one step. However, you will still have to delete the original if you don't want a copy with the old name.
Note: I am installing "Gwenview", right now, to get a "hands on" look,

Garry, the OP says it worked fine in Jessie's KDE 4; it's the new Plasma 5 version in Stretch that's having the problem.

Yes, I realize that, and it works fine on the install I just did, but it also is a older version,

Not off hand, I also was looking for any bug reports when I searched,
and did not see any, but my thoughts are maybe one should be submitted.
It would be nice if any one else using Debian Stretch could confirm, that
the same occurs for them,. Since the Stretch release is still pretty new,
maybe no one else has noticed yet.
In the meantime , one of the other packages or programs all ready suggested.

GarryRicketson > Thanks ! I know how to rename file, it's the batch processing of kipi-plugins which are a problem here. :)

Arochester > All this softwares work. You can rename by adding the meta-date. Then, you have to sort the files by name and rename them in order to have them by date in your browser. (It's maybe unclear ? ^^)
Kipi-plugins were really simple :
In Gwenview, you sort by meta-date, you "batch rename" like this : "Summer pictures - "
And you will get :
"Summer pictures - 1.jpg"
"Summer pictures - 2.jpg"
"Summer pictures - 3.jpg"

I used gwenview to look at pictures, rate them and rename them. I have a lot of pictures (and many cameras with different files names...), it was really practical. But your solution will do the job, even if I have to spend a lot a time with different softwares.

Stevepusser > I don't know Phatch, I will take a look. Thx!

Ok, I'm not alone ! ^^
I tried to contact a maintainer in order to know what to do (bug report or something else).

You can do that with Dolphin. Just select the files you want to rename, right-click and select "Rename" from the popup menu, then edit the details as you want.

Yes, you can do that in Dolphin but the pictures won't be sorted by meta-dates, only by name or dates (not meta-dates).^^

KRename is a magnificent and extremely powerful renamer. It can read EXIF for renaming IIRC.

Hopefully you got rename working, but you may also find other gwenview plugins, like
advanced slide show and ken burns effects dont work.
