applications -> system tools -> package updater
you can update packages.

Can you tell the name of this piece of software in the synaptic package manager?

Can you install it on debian 9 main 64bit?

Thank you. By mistake I did not write, it is debian 9 main 64bit mate 1.16.

Did you manage to install and get it to work in Mate?

We have a nice lightweight homebrewed, desktop-agnostic update-notifier in MX Linux, but it uses gtkdialog, a package unavailable in stock Debian and Ubuntu.

When I entered it in the search box of the synaptic package manager, I must have
done it incorrectly, because the software did not show. Entering it again
in the search box, it was present.
After installing the software, the package updater is in the menu.
