Hello,
Each time I change my session (from me to my children, for example), a window appears on the session (even if it's not a new session) telling me to verify updates. It's really annoying. It asks me to enter the root password in order to see what packages are upgradable.
It comes from "The Package Kit Policy".
Why this appears ? How can I safely remove that ? Thanks you.

Changing user - update - Packagekit.
Re: Changing user - update - Packagekit.
i guess actually performing the upgrade would fix that, no?
Re: Changing user - update - Packagekit.
No, there is no upgrade available. :/
(I update and upgrade everyday, by the way)

please quote full ouput received, and try to identify the name of the app that issued it (maybe with xprop?).
i'm not familiar with "The Package Kit Policy", and i think you might be mistaken there.

I'm wondering if you're using the GNOME DE and may be why PackageKit is installed and running on your system. I found PackageKit in the repos but not installed as I use the MATE DE.
I wonder if you can simply just uninstall PackageKit without uninstalling anything else (not sure as I don't know if GNOME depends on PackageKit).
Myself, I just update Debian at the command line as follows:
su - #switch to my root account
apt update #update the repo list
apt upgrade #update any software that is out of date
and that's it.
I also recommend installing the following packages:
debian-goodies
needrestart
Cheers!

Hey.
I only use KDE. I may have installed something related with Gnome.
I uninstalled PackageKit. I think the problem has disappeared. Thank you.
