Is there some problem with my hardware ?
Is there some problem with my hardware ?
Hi, everyone !
I just did a fresh installation of Debian Stretch 9.2 on my machine.
When I enter the dmesg command to see if there are some hardware errors, I have some red lines (I suppose this means they are errors) :
[ 11.497774] bcma: bus0: No SPROM available
[ 11.571802] b43-phy0 ERROR: FOUND UNSUPPORTED PHY (Analog 12, Type 11 (AC), Revision 1)
[ 11.596736] bluetooth hci0: firmware: failed to load brcm/BCM20702A1-0b05-180a.hcd (-2)
[ 11.643718] radeon 0000:01:00.0: failed VCE resume (-110).
[ 11.648511] EDAC sbridge: ECC is disabled. Aborting
[ 11.648550] EDAC sbridge: Couldn't find mci handler
[ 11.648587] EDAC sbridge: Failed to register device with error -19.
[ 12.166870] EDAC sbridge: ECC is disabled. Aborting
[ 12.166920] EDAC sbridge: Couldn't find mci handler
[ 12.166967] EDAC sbridge: Failed to register device with error -19.
So it looks like there is a bluetooth problem (i don't use it, so I don't really care). There might be a problem with my GPU. I don't know about the rest. I don't know the meaning of "EDAC bridge" lines.
The complete dmesg output is available here :
https://pastebin.com/LH6VnV3z
My hardware :
Motherboard: Asus X99 Deluxe
CPU: Intel i7 5820K
GPU: AMD Sapphire R7 240 2G
SSD: Samsung SM 951 128 Go M.2
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2 To
Memory: Corsair DDR4 2133 Mhz 16 Go
Blu-ray drive: Asus BW-16D1HT
Power Supply: Corsair CS650M
If that's important, I used an amd64 ISO for the installation and my desktop environment is GNOME.
Does anyone know what these messages mean ? And do you knoww how to solve these problems ?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Is there some problem with my hardware ?
Many of the devices in your system need firmware which you did not mention having installed.
If you are not too invested in the present install, the easiest way to get most firmware is to use an unofficial installer that includes close source firmware. UnOffical Install images with firmware.
This will load just the firmware for devices that are detected during installation - usually video (radeon) and most recent wireless cards.
The other option is to install a package that has all non-free firmware.
Note that some device manufacturers do not allow redistribution of firmware but you can usually pull it from the device cd legally or find it on the web.

Re: Is there some problem with my hardware ?
Looks to me like the b43 driver doesn't support that particular broadcom chipset.worov wrote: [ 11.571802] b43-phy0 ERROR: FOUND UNSUPPORTED PHY (Analog 12, Type 11 (AC), Revision 1)

Try installing the missing firmware first, if that doesn't work you may need the wl binary driver instead.
OTOH, if you don't care about bluetooth, just ignore it.
Your motherboard doesn't support ECC. Don't worry about it.[ 11.648511] EDAC sbridge: ECC is disabled. Aborting
[ 11.648550] EDAC sbridge: Couldn't find mci handler
[ 11.648587] EDAC sbridge: Failed to register device with error -19.
Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action. Four times is Official GNOME Policy.
Re: Is there some problem with my hardware ?
Hi and thanks to both of you for your answers.
I just installed this package : https://packages.debian.org/stretch/fir ... ux-nonfree
The Radeon VCE error is still there. (So are the Broadcomm, but that's not important).
Complete output here : https://pastebin.com/4pk0wZPh
What does this radeon message mean ?

Re: Is there some problem with my hardware ?
Do you have xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu installed?
The other option is to install the propriatary driver from AMD.
Debian has a wiki on the propriatary drivers and in Debian 8 there was an issue with Gnome. The wiki has not been updated for Debian 9.
You may want to look at testing as it has a newer version of the amdgpu driver which does not appear to be backported yet to Debian 9

Re: Is there some problem with my hardware ?
Inxi reports your AMD graphics are working. Maybe it's just that your card doesn't support whatever feature that "error" is reporting. Have you noticed any problems with graphics yet?
